Help...coffee in the cue case.

With a lot of unique talent, I managed to spill most of a very large styrofoam cup (full) of coffee inside my Its George cue case.

Any suggestions as to how I can clean it out and make the case usable again without damanging my cues later on down the road? Maybe rinse it out with dish soap and hang it upside down to dry????

RackGirl, you can do a google search, there are a lot of coffee cleaning tips. I do not know how much you spilled into the case, but be careful once it dries, if there is any on the side of the area where the butt or shafts slide into, it can wear away the finish or possibly scratch it. Maybe call a laundry that does steam cleaning or a place that does upholstery , just a thought. PM some of the cue case makers on here for advice. Good luck.

i would say contact john barton or jack justis they are both well respected case makers and members on the forum. they would give you the most reliable info imho.

The interior lining on the It's George case is glued to the inner edge of the casing. It can be removed, but you'll need to reglue it back into place. That would allow you to hand wash the interior lining and rinse out the inside of the case. Not sure on the best way to remove the interior lining though, maybe someone will chime in on that one. Giving a week to air out with an electric fan blowing into the inside of the case without the lining and letting the interior lining hang dry after the hand wash should be ok to glue back into place. At least, this is my own personal observation. Easier if it were a McDermott SuperMac case since the interior lining just pulls right out.

Hey, your suposed to drink coffee not spill it.

If it were mine, I would mix up some Tide with cold water in a bucket and fill the case up about 2/3 full , put the lid on and shake the case up and down a few times, and rinse the case out with cold water a couple times or until you get rid of the suds. Let the case dry out completely with a little help from a fan or hair dryer rigged in such a way to blow directly into the case.

I might add, you would be doing this at your own risk but what do you have to lose?

If your It's George case has a Fellini style latch, I would suggest that you spray some WD-40 into the keyhold and lightly oil the outside. They are known to rust when exposed to water. Same goes for the little metal rivets at the bottom... Just a precaution since you're going to get the case wet.

Wow guys, thanks for all your help. I knew I'd get help on here as to what to do.

I may be better off just investing in another case and keeping this one as a backup.

Talk to John of JB cases...he might even have replacement interiors for the It's George case.

I had the liner partially detach from the case because the glue dried out. Using a razor utility knife I scraped off it the case and reglued the lining back using contact cement.

From my observation, the liner appears to be glued to the case only around the lip area and the bottom of the lining are open ended. If you don't want to attempt taking the liner off, try taking a straighten out coat hanger with a hooked end and see if you can pull and invert out the liner out from the case. From there you can wash and dry it.

The liner appears to be black felt, so it may be a good idea to talk to JB if the GTF liners fit.

Well I saw on a video that it's a good thing you have an it's George case.. You should be able to turn it over and let it hit the ground and the coffee should fall right out.

Seriously you might need to get it relined, maybe JB or evern Ron Thomas here in the states could help you out...

Talking to John Barton or Ron Thomas would be a good start for replacement interiors. If you just want one that is a direct replacement, John would have no problem with getting you hooked up with one. But, if you want a GTF interior, you'd have to buy a GTF case. He cannot provide one for any Fellini style case without breaking contract with GTF.

If the liner is not glued at the bottom, this is a much better idea than my original. Hey, you got any other good ideas?

I don't think that's possible since It's George 1x2 or 2x4 liners have dividers. It would be very difficult to pull out the interior inside/out. I think the hanger would end up tearing into the interior liner making a hole or worse.

Hey Christina I'm glad to see some other people have the same solution as me as per our phone conversation.
I really like the idea of pulling out the interior with a coat hanger if it's not glued all the way through but I think you would still need to rinse out the inside of the case even after you pull out the dividers.
I left you a voicemail, let me know how you make out.

Maybe someone should invent somekind of an umbrella for your case, lol.

I'm not trying to be a JB here but the dividers have nothting to do with pulling the liner out as long it's not glued at the bottom which I am 99% sure it is not. The liners in these cases is pretty durable and putting a small hole in the liner at this juncture is moot once you get the liner out of the case....just sew it up.

Well,

I am obviously not as experienced a case maker as Jack Justis since he started two years before I did. I do however have some experience with It's George cases that he probably doesn't have so I may be able to help.

The liner in an It's George case is glued in at the bottom and at the top. You can fairly easily remove the top and pull out the liner with a little effort.

Don't worry about tearing it because once it's out it will either still be intact or the bottom will be slightly torn. It's easily fixed.

At that point you can wash it and dry it on the low heat setting. Then you can glue it back in easily at the top. It doesn't need to be glued back in at the bottom.

Well, I have started taking the lining out but it appears to not be coming out very easily. The liner must be glued somewhere at the bottom because I can't even seem to pry it out with a coat hanger (and I am not exactly the weakest girl on earth).

I'll get someone to help me pry the liner out - and once they do, I have one last question: the liner is not all that nice and I am thinking it is best to just completely replace it. Can I purchase a new liner that will fit in this case? Any suggestions?

The case isn't even worth all that much but I hate to give it up at this point. Just stubborn, I guess.

THANKS.

Use a blow dryer to loosen the glue at the top. Don't use coat hanger and disregard that advice.

You just need to rip it out from the bottom. The liner IS glued to the bottom.

I can make you a replacement liner for $40 shipped if you need it.
