HELP!!! Dufferin info needed!!!

Well guys im looking for some good info on the Dufferin house cue. Here is what I have come to learn.

Dufferin is a Canadian company that USED to produce the Dufferin cues. Since they have sold the rights to there forest in Canada and their name to an over seas Chinese company. Now the Dufferin cue isnt what it used to be. The chinese made counter parts are not as well made and have a much better chance at warping.:eek:

I have noticed that there seems to be 3 different kinds of rubber butt caps. Three with bolts in them and one that seems to be an all rubber plug. The three that have bolts in them are slightly different in there design. One has a square allen head looking bolt head and the other two have either a phillips head screw or they have a slot notched into an allen head or square head that fits a flat head screw driver.

So this brings me to my question. How do you know if you have the real deal Candian made Dufferin cue? Are there any identifying marks that arent on the Chinese made replicas? Any info here is helpfull.

As far as I know or at least from what I've seen it should say made in Canada under the Maple Leaf logo.
 
What if they dont say made in Canada? I have one form Kevin Deroo that doesnt say made in Canada but I believe it is.

I have a set from 1992. Mine do not have "made in Canada" on the maple leaf logo The maple leaf logo just says "Dufferin". They do say "made in Canada" on the side of the bumper. I can see where this might rub off.

I don't have a Chinese Dufferin to compare them. Pic added below.

Have you tried to e-mail Kevin with a pic to ask him?

Dufferin is no more

Somewhere about 4-5 years ago, Dufferin (a Canadian compnay - that made the best house cues plus decent moderate custom cues) voluntarily closed the doors.

All of the equipment was sold to William Pan (or something like that) in China. I berlieve he has been producing them for awhile using the Dufferin name - but should not say made in Canada.

Dufferin had some proprietaary tools and really made a nice product. At one time the made close to 500,000 house cues a year.

That 'screw head' is called a 'Robinson' - and are common on Canadian items. (Or used to be 20 years ago).

Thanks for all the info. Im going to look through all the fast eddies here locally and try to talk my way into a couple duffs with the Robinson screw. I hope this assures they are canadian made.:thumbup:

As we all know, even from this forum, the Chinese will knock off any product they can make a buck on. As an proud American who has lost his job to an over seas company, this sickens me. Without getting political, we should all be conscious of where are hard earned money goes. That goes for every country, not just America.

And they are still very popular here today. Minor nit to pick, they are "Robertson" head screws .... Robinson was the shipwrecked guy :wink:.

I have several Dufferin house cues. My mid-90s vintage cues do not say "Made in Canada" on the bumpers, but do have a Roberstson screw holding the bumper. A much older (70s ?) cue has no visible screw and no "Made in Canada". All of course have the Dufferin logo (a "C" with stylised "D" inside) mid-forearm by the weight stamp.
