I believe there is a room in Round Rock (just north of Austin) that has a decent heated carom table. I haven't actually seen it, but I had some correspondence a few years ago with a man who played there; I'll try to find it if I can get my old machine running again anytime soon. There might be others in Austin; it's fairly civilized by Texas standards.

You might find one in Houston, and maybe one in Dallas or Fort Worth. I think it's very unlikely that there's one in Bryan/College Station (or on the A&M campus). I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't even any 9-foot pool tables around there; those aren't very popular in Texas. As far as I know, there's only one carom table in San Antonio; it's an old Brunswick, and is unheated and poorly maintained. There's supposed to be a nice quasi-private carom club in Nuevo Laredo, but that's really too far from College Station to be useful to you except maybe on weekends, and very possibly unsafe to try to get to.

It's not really my business, but.... Are you going to College Station voluntarily, or have you committed some heinous crime and you're going there as an alternative to execution? In either case, you might want to seriously reconsider....

Throom in Round Rock is G-Cue, and the table is a well-maintained Verhoeven. Eric's in Austin has an old Brunswick.

I´m going voluntarily as parts of an exchange program between my university and Texas A&M. so no horrible crime comitted here (if so it would be easier to hide in mexico :) ). thanks for all your sugggestions please keep them coming as 5 months with out pool or carom would be a long time.
thanks

Any time you're in a new place in the US looking for a carom table it's a good idea to check around any Vietnamese or Korean communities (churches, community centers, etc.) I've often had to settle for smaller/unheated/converted tables, but it's better than nothing.

University of houston has a brunswick, there is a carom table in a deli in houston somewhere up on the north side. There is also a carom cafe in houston. The rest are vietnamese places that I don't reccomend unless you have a friend that speaks the language.

if you have the name of the carom cafe would you please post it or pm it to me, so i can look for it.

I'm living in Houston, TX. I know every Carom room in Houston....
Please send a list of them to the USBA Secretary: secretary@usba.net
We are trying to maintain a list of all the carom rooms in the US, and I think that nothing is listed for Houston right now.

Thanks,

I currently go to school in College Station and have been wanting to pick up 3C. If you or anyone else in the area is willing to take the time to show me some pointers I'd much appreciate it. Just let me know.

Also, CS isn't all that bad. Ok, maybe slow, but there are 9 footers.

hey grc could you pm me the places you know there with 9ft. one month away from the tables ruins my game think what one semester will do to me :(.
for the carom table I want to know where´s one because I am just starting to get a little better in 3c (been playing less than a year so I still have a long way to go) and don´t want to leave it for one semester.

Thanks

Bob,
The USBA site shows the following as a location with a billiard table:

"CJ’s Billiard Palace, 7328 Gaston Ave, Dallas, TX 75214-4130, (214) 321-9947, one antique Brunswick."

The last time I was at CJ's (over a year ago), they no longer had a 3 cushion table (or a snooker table for that matter). In fact, it had turned into a teeny-bopper hangout with loud musical and colored disco balls. Of course, maybe that's just something they do on Saturday night.

Anyway, I'm not saying they don't have a billiard table. But as of a year ago, they had removed the one they had. I don't live near that location anymore, so I doubt I will visit it, but if I do I will let you (or the secretary) know if the table is there. Or if someone else on the board is in Dallas, maybe they can find out.

As for 3 cushion tables in the Dallas area, I have heard that "The Billiard Den" which just opened in Richardson (580 W. Arapaho Rd. Suite 136) has one. The website states they have one as well.

Thanks for the info, Max. It's impossible to check all of the info myself, so it's nice to have some help.

I'm in San Antonio and have been looking for a carom table to play on. Could you possibly tell me where the one is here? Thanks

couple of these places Carom Player mention suck balls, especially at vietnamese billiard. Only reason why I would say that is I been to them before with slow cloth and sometimes your playing on 9ft tables not 10ft. I havn't found a place that has 3 different color balls yet! I see the regular 2 white and red ball.

Just a quick update. University of Houston is refelting their tables in January 2008 to Simonis 860 Cloth. Right now its some cheap-ass cloth that I really hate. I go to that school and know the manager very well. I am trying to convince him to go 760 if the price is right.

G-Cue's table is very nice indeed. I've been there a few times and have hosted a tournament or so there! That heated table is quite nice and I don't know that you would find one as nice....hopefully it's not the only one.

They should not use 860 or 760 for billiards - both of those grades of Simonis are designed for pool. Carom billiards should use Simonis 300 Rapide.
