I’m researching the pool industry and looking for some data – statistics – and I NEED HELP!!! Where can I find answers??? Here’s the questions:
1) How many billiards halls and pool parlors exist throughout North America?
2) What is the total number of billiards franchises operating? (by franchise: APA, BCA, other)
3) How many players participate in franchised leagues? (Annually)
4) How many billiards players participate monthly in the game?
5) Who’s the oldest player still in the action?
6) Is there anybody still steering road players to games?

1) How many billiards halls and pool parlors exist throughout North America?

Use a yellow pages type searchs by state, use separate search for each large city, search under every heading you can think of. (ex pool halls, billiards, billiards halls) This will only be representative since many listings under billiards will be other businesses.

2) What is the total number of billiards franchises operating? (by franchise: APA, BCA, other)

APA, TAP, BCAPL, VNEA, couple of others that escape me at the moment

3) How many players participate in franchised leagues? (Annually)

Contact organizations from question #2

4) How many billiards players participate monthly in the game?

Don't know but it varies by season of the year.

5) Who’s the oldest player still in the action?

Possibly Grady but contact Freddy the Beard, he'll have a pretty good idea who.

6) Is there anybody still steering road players to games?

Sure!

There are also some pool room data bases online you can check but they are incomplete and much information is old and out of date.

I have a BCA document from 2001 that is 44 pages of industry statistics. Sadly it's now outdated. Perhaps you could dig up a newer version if you searched thoroughly on their website or called them?

Do not quote me on any stats, but I think there are around 300,000 APA players. They are the largest with the BCA being second and then probably the VNEA.

Somewhere on the BCA website (not BCAPL) I believe they have compiles stats. You might look there for billiard related info.

You could also look at some government info on the industry.

Good Luck
