Help ID the Wood

Brazillian rosewood. ( IMO )

I can't agree with you there. It doesn't look like Brazilian rosewood to me.

The one on the left reminds me of Massaranduba, also called beefwood (though there may be two species in the same genus called Beefwood). I have seen references saying that Beefwood has been in used cues. If so, I believe they were/are used in some house cues, perhaps a few decades ago. Can you date the two cues in question?

Here is a picture of a beefwood bowl I chose to show because it shows some similar patterns to the cue on the left. I have some Massaranduba point stock that is pretty close.

The one on the right could be the same, or a mahagony, maybe even Jatoba. I do not think it is a true rosewood. Also, I can't see the one on left being Goncalo Alves.

But hey, they could be almost anything, so many woods can look similar if they happen to be pieces mostly void of figure or grain character.

They both appear to be the same, but not any rosewood. No species of rosewood has that type of open grain. Mahogony (African or South American), generally also has a tighter grain without those deep grain features which are prominent on both cues. Gancalo Alves is right out both due to color and grain.

My money is on Kingwood.
