It's an old Brunswick (my best guess) - early/mid 1960's?

didn't the two pc. hoppe's have the same joint? pin is only out past brass collar about 3/8" to tip of point, if that helps identify.

The cue I saw wasn't a manufacturer cue, it was a custom. The joint was specific to the maker, like the glass epoxy to Cognoscenti cues. the cue i saw made was custom, and i remember verifying the name and the joint online. it used a recessed pin style with a raised color, and on the shaft end of the cue, it had the same recessed feature.

You are right - I had one with a 1960-70 label that had the same joint as yours. It's a joint Brunswick used, but I don't know if anyone else (other than Rambow) did.

Here's a circa-1970 one with similar joint, but the longer pin: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7222458087

It almost looks like it could be an early 70’s Sampaio cue but most if not all of the Sampaio’s that I’ve seen had either “Sampaio” or “Portugal” or “Made in Portugal” stamped (embossed) in the butt or shaft and sometimes both the butt and shaft.

Sampaio cues were made in Lisbon, Portugal and J-S Sales was the exclusive distributor here in the US.

I think there is a possibilty that it could be a Sampaio cue.., and if indeed it is, it has value in it's original condition.., If I owned this cue, I'd wait and find out before I would refinish or cut in a wrap.

Check out http://www.welovepool.com/sapocu.html for some examples (and prices) of the Sampaio cues offered.

Sure you could!

Here are some joints similar to yours - the one on the left has about the same length pin, '50s Hoppe. Next one is slightly shorter and shaft sleeve is re-done. Shaft on far right is from a '60s Hoppe.

BTW - cue on far left is a near-perfect Hoppe with best craftsmanship I've seen, almost perfect points, you can barely feel the collars. And it has an "R" stamped into the butt on the opposite side of the label. Kind of weird.

I know I've seen that joint on Rich cues and that might explain the R stamped on the Hoppe.

a brunswick collector told me that it was an option back then to have your initails stamped on the hoppe's. i've had three personally that did have initials on the butt. if i remember right, i thought he said it was an extra $1 or $2.
