Help Identifying Early Gina Que

Looking for some help identifying and valuing this Gina cue.


I’ve been trying to learn more about it and possibly sell it, but so far I’ve reached out to several people and dealers and most conversations immediately turn into “What do you want for it?” rather than helping me figure out exactly what I have.


From what I’ve gathered:


  • Gina cue
  • Stainless steel piloted joint
  • 3 shafts
  • Linen wrap
  • Four points with colored veneers
  • Appears to be an older cue

I’m hoping some of the Gina experts here can help me determine:


  • Approximate age
  • Whether it appears to be a Titlist conversion or an original Gina build
  • Any identifying characteristics I should be looking for
  • A realistic value range.

I’ve attached several photos. Any information would be greatly appreciated before I decide whether to keep it or sell it.

A little background: I work with an estate attorney, and this cue came from an estate. While I enjoy playing pool myself, the original owner was clearly the true enthusiast and collector.

This cue will eventually be sold as part of the estate, but before that happens I need to determine a fair market value and accurately represent what it is. Simply putting a number on it without understanding the cue could create problems for the estate and for me.

I’ve reached out to several people already, but most of the responses have been offers to buy it or questions about my asking price rather than information about the cue itself.

I’m hoping some of the Gina experts here can help me better understand its age, history, originality, and current market value. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
 
I'll give you my opinion as a non expert. Looks like a Titelist conversation to me.
Value highly dependent on condition and from the pictures the condition doesn't look great. 3 shafts could be a plus depending on diameter and how straight each is. Along with shafts being straight how straight the butt is can highly effect the value. She definitely needs to go to someone who can care for it correctly. Depending on what part of the country you're in there may be a reputable cuemaker that could help assess the condition. Can't give you a value because I'm not interested in buying it. If a person gives you a value but isn't interested in buying it for the price they say,is it really a good evaluation of price?
 
I would price it at $1500 for the estate sale. It needs a fair amount of work. Is there a crack down the forearm of the cue or is that just the finish? Do you know if the butt and shafts roll straight when apart and when screwed together? If there is a crack or if there are wobbles in the butt and/or shaft, then you should reduce it $500. Folks may disagree with my suggested price, and I'm not an expert, but there's a lot unknown about the cue other than the Gina name, and hopefully this is a decent starting price to get it sold.

I would think it is worth more than that
 
Does it have veneer damage down by the wrap or is it a reflection? As others have stated, value is heavily contingent on condition and straightness.

From the poor condition I could see, I'd be shocked if the shafts are anywhere close to straight.

It could be worth 2-3k if it's a good candidate for a refinish. If the butt has significant damage and the shafts are badly warped, it may only be worth a few hundred.

Send it to someone that can assess it for you. Proficient Billiards would be a good choice for that.
 
This looks like an older Titilist forearm and the cue looks to be in a rougher condition - - honestly - It may be a Gina cue but certainly on the low end of his current price range - My opinion is a $2,000 ask price - maybe $2500 - but I don’t think that you would get even the $2,000.
Titilist conversions in rough shape from the cue making legends like GB or Ernie are just at the lowest end in my experienced selling opinion and according to my desires as an individual buyer.
You have dreamers and you have realists in the cue selling world - I am a bona fide realist who sold every cue listed within a 30 day period in over the last 25 years.

gina's in good shape go for alot more thats why i thought 1500 was low
but you could be spot on with your price

My wrong opinion.

1970-1972 Ginacue due to the block letter GINACUE of that timeline
BR Titleist - definitely not an original Ernie-built forearm
Value Range: whatever people want to spend on it.
  • $2000 minimum, I think.
  • The nostalgia is what's going to drive the price.
  • Consider that this cannot be built again by Ernie.
  • Ernie was not big on sharp point cues

 
that isnt in poor shape just needs cleaning up for a nice playing cue. as long as that is not a crack on the butt from the pic.
2500 as is, is realistic.

if the estate sale is an in person thing likely no one will be a buyer. unless its like ebay on the net which reach many buyers.

Is that mold I see?? Have you checked the straightness of both the shafts and butt??
That much mold, if it is indeed mold, means a lot of moisture got in there. I'd be surprised if it's straight. I hope it is for your sake and best of luck w the sale!!
 
This would be a dandy project cue for a fan of Ernies early work. Most would not touch it unless priced quite low. If Ernie would agree to refurbish the cue that would help but at his age who knows if he would agree to do it— or if it’s actually in a condition to benefit from a refurbishment. My guess as that the cost of the refurbishment by Ernie would far exceed the value of the cue as is. I’ve owned and played with a few Gina’s including a rosewood merry widow that was built around the same era as this cue. I would not set my hopes high that this cue will be a “monster” player. More of a historical novelty cue than anything.

I largely agree with this. The wrap looks decent. Any cuemaker worth his salt could give the cue a good cleaning
and you’d be surprised how good it can look. All the shafts look iffy. Thin, probably warped, not sure.
Certainly I would NOT refinish anything on the cue. What you have was done by the Master. Don’t rid yourself of some of his work. Reminds me of the guy that won an Olympic Gold medal, liked it so much he had it bronzed.
And it wouldn’t have to be a cuemaker to make it look better. You could do it in your chair watching TV and make it look presentable.***Do NOT mess with the wrap. Leave it alone, just wipe it.***

You could not pry that from me for $2000, it would take more. Just an opinion.

100% agree.
Do NOTHING to this cue but a light clean up.
