Did that...made a kingman pool players page on FB and even put up a craigslist ad...the problem is that kingman is out of date...I get more 60+ year olds at my tourney than I do 20-40 year olds...most of them get pissed when you text them because "phones are made to talk on" lol

Yeah the closest 9 footers are in Havasu or Vegas ....kinda sucks but I'm trying to make the best of what's available. Timeout tavern wouldn't be a bad place if they would just do some upkeep on the tables...

Ill look into having an exhibition put on...I don't know if the pool following has grown enough to make it worth while for someone to come out and put on a show.

If you ever find your self in kingman and want to shoot a couple games let me know...

You may well be right about the exhibition thing. If it can't draw a good crowd, it may not be worth the effort. But if you thnk it would work some day., I could try to use my influence to get someone to come out there.

I spent a little time in Havasu back in September. At the time I didn't even give Kingman a thought, knowing pool was nearly dead in town. But, next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to look you up.

Best of luck to you in bringing pool back to life in Kingman.

I tried to hook up with Rackemup, when I came through Kingman last month. However, it was Christmas Day (I was driving to Albuquerque from Los Angeles), and it was last minute, so I didn't expect to meet up with him. We'll do it next time though! Sorry to have missed you sir!

I sure appreciate it! I would just hate to book someone to come perform and then only have a small handful of people show up to watch...

Rant....

Well I feel like things took a small step backwards last Thursday at my little tournament... We have/had a standing agreement with the bar owner and staff that on tournament night as long as we have 8 or more players we get both tables at 6:30pm for practice (tourney starts at 7:00)...Well the bar owner decided that since there were a couple of guys drinking beer and playing pool on one of the tables that they were more important than the tournament and as long as they were there drinking and paying for pool they took priority. I politely reminded him of our agreement and told him with 12 players on one table we would be there until after closing time. He shrugged his shoulders as if to say "not my problem"...I understand the bar is there as a business and the goal is to make money but Thursday nights used to be a dead night...Thats why we run the tournament on Thursdays but now Thursdays are hopping in that little bar...I really think the Tournament has had a lot to do with that. People drive by and see a packed parking lot at the bar and say "hey lets go check that place out" where as they see an empty parking lot and say "ahhh...it looks dead in there" and continue on their way....

My thoughts on a solution to the problem...If I raised the entry fee by $1 ($6 total) and gave a buck per person to the house to cover the tables (green fee) does that sound fair? I know a buck per person isn't much from the owners stand point but I don't want to run my players off either. I've thought of trying to find a different place to hold the tourney but the pickings are slim in this little town...

Man I wish I had the $$$ to start up my own little pool room/bar/eatery....

It's hard for some room owners or bar owners figure it out....

First of all people are creatures of habit. If they get used to going someplace they keep coming back. This should also be an opportunity for the owner to make friends with many of the players. they all have friends and eventually he will see a return on his friendship and dedication to the players.

Most bars have a vendor. Someone that furnishes the pool tables, juke box, dart boards and video games. Find out who this is and talk to them. they would know a bar that would just love to have a tourney like this and might even see the value this would have from a building business stand point.

Bars need people in them. Even though many of the pool players might not spend allot of money they are keeping it busy. People don't like to stop at a place where there is nothing going on. Smart owner would understand this.

If these people don't want to give you the table put them in their first tourney for free. Make friends with them. They might want to play every week.

Another thing is start up a break pot. Have tickets and sell them for a dollar each. Half in the jug and the player keeps the other part. Draw a number each week and make sure it stay honest. Players can buy as many tickets as they want increasing their chance of getting drawn.

If there is $90 in the pot each ball they make is worth $10. Rack a rack of 9 ball. They keep shooting and can stop anytime. If they miss a ball they lose everything that they had made and the money. This will get players coming just to try at the break pot. It will build each and every week and eventually get up to $500 or even $1000. That gets exciting.

I ran a place for 13 years so I really understand how all this works.

These are some ideas. You might want to talk to the owner about helping build up some business with this break pot. The places that they have these get many players coming every week.

Good luck...........
