Help Me Choose The Leather

So, I am making a couple cases. Tube style...Fellini, Centennial, Engles, etc. type case.

No, not selling them...yet. Maybe...perhaps...possibly...at some point I will.

I have a number of types, textures, and colors of leather and have narrowed my choice down to two.

A smooth black leather, or an ostrich pattern brown (not genuine ostrich).

This first one will probably be with the old Fellini style diary latch, a classic style case. Right now I am thinking the brown ostrich for the first one.

I will build a second one later with another type latch that I found which as far as I can tell has never been used on a cue case. Right now I am thinking the smooth black for the second one. It's going to have a subtle biker theme so I think the black works better.

Not great pictures, just really for the general idea. These are the actual hides I have.

Thoughts?

I like both your choices for each case. Do what you like for the first ones. Maybe get a consensus if you plan on selling some. Best of luck with your endeavor.

what's to choose? you're using both for two cases (my first reaction before reading the whole post was why not make two cases from both?)
Great question.

More or less, it's the first one I am thinking of mainly.

For some reason the first is "special".

And I like to see what people think. It's a great community. Someone already suggested two tone, which I had not even thought of.

I have enough leather to make more cases, that's not an issue. I actually have three full sides of the black. My wife and I bought out the stock of a leather place years ago. I have numerous storage containers full of leather. We also got the commercial walking foot sewing machine in the deal.

I had not thought of that. Could maybe do like an inset window?

Can you give me ideas?
My gut is black on tan... Tan being the main body...black for pocket or trim.
Or play around and make and tan on black also....
Or simply make 1 tone each. You'll love both.
Not sure?... make a solid black for starters... Black cannot be wrong.

Sounds good, I'll just wait here for my case to arrive hehehe
