Help Needed -- Cue Identification

I'd appreciate any info on this cue.

A friend of mine gave this cue to my 7 year old son. The cue measures 56 1/2" overall. My guess is that it is of asian origin.

That checkerboard pattern looks nice. I've never seen that in a cue before. Wish I could help ID it, but I'm clueless.
