Help ! New glasses have screwed my game up

Put on a hat if you don't wear one. That should fix your problem. Try it before you laugh.

Yeah, and if you wear one .... take it off.

Kidding aside, I feel for ya. I ended up with double vision that they say if from diabetes. The eye doctor made me a set of glasses with prisms in them and they are driving me nuts. I've decided to forget the glasses and suffer for 2 more months. They say this actually may correct itself. If not, there is an eye surgery that tightens up the weak eye muscle.

Hang in there .. best of luck!

Vision and Pool

I wore glasses for 18 years, and while playing, I always had to "squint". I went to my OPTO and he suggested soft contacts. While many people are not able to wear contacts, todays lenses are helping more and more people. The contact lense covers your entire retina, therefore there is no "stretch" to the look of the balls. (Often, glasses will make balls look like eggs on the table).
I told my doc that, after he fitted me for my regular contacts, I wanted a set to play pool; focus at three feet, and then at six to nine feet. So, he prescribed "monovision". The dominant eye normally is used for distance, and the weaker eye used for closeup reading, etc. Once this was done, he "Powered down" the prescription by one-half a diopter for each eye. My reaction was immediate. If one has never used "Monovision", it takes the human brain a couple of days to get used to the difference, but once it sets in, it works perfect. No more "fuzz". The edge of the balls are crystal clear!
Disposable soft lenses cost about $25.00 for a box of six, and if cared for, can last for weeks at a time.
If there's a chance that you can wear contacts, try this, you won't be sorry!

I got tired of aiming at the fuzz around the edge of object balls and bought some pool glasses. Everything is very sharp but I can't seem to find that sweet spot on the object ball like I used to. My game's about 75 percent.

Has any one had the same problem? How long did it last?
I shoot about 15 hrs a week on 9-footers.:confused::(

I wish you luck with this problem because i've been there struggling with glasses and contacts myself. It's a disadvantage dealing with glasses and trying to play pool........

:rolleyes:I have glasses just for billiards so I don't have to look through the frame of the small lenses my wife wants me to have.

Last time I had the lenses replaced was about a week prior the USBA Nationals. I get them and right away the balls look larger. Well I guessed thats OK "they're the experts right" Well I went on the the tourney and played like crap. Missing easy hits totally blowing other shots. Then I notice other strange things, like the balls are moving around as my head moves. When I get back home I go to the shop and talk to them. Guess what? The punk that wrote the order transposed 2 numbers.

Moral of the story go back and talk to them. They'll rework the order N/C no matter what. You're problem is you don't have a reference point as these are your first glasses but it could be the prescription. Other than that since its the first set, you gotta get used to them.

new cheaters

I've been playing a lot lately and things seem to be turning around. I think
you guys (girls) are right . Patience , patience. Thanks for all your encouragement. :)

your going to get a little bit of parallex which is what really throws you off at first. it takes a bit for your brain to compensate for it, which it will do automatically. when shooting try to keep your glasses in the same spot on the bridge nose, if they sit a lil higher or lower it changes where you see the object. what you see isnt in the exact spot you are percieving it to be in. you can exagerate the effect by staring at an object and moving your glasses around, you'll see everything kinda shift around a bit.
like i said, i think if you keep them consistntly in one place on your face (for me high up on the brifge of nose) and just play normal for while, your brain will adjust automatically.

Good advice, but there could be another factor that may NEVER be overcome. I was very near sighted and my glasses made the pool balls shrink in size. There is no freaking way your eyes can ever compsensate for this. This all depends on the strength of your prescription however. Additionally, some astigmatism may never be totally corrected with glasses. To me the balls looked like small Easter eggs.
