I agree with posters on the other threads that the recent demise of some shady streaming sites is bad for the growth of snooker, but in fairness I do not blame the BBC. I suspect the NFL was the driving force here as if they don't make enough cash already.

To make matters worse Canada is starting to meter internet usage which will surely spread to the states. I am confident that other sites will pop up. Its like cutting the head off of a hydra, when you do 3 more heads grow back.

I am posting this thread asking Scaramouche to keep us posted on new sites that offer easy access to Snooker. I credit Scaramouche for my level of exposure to snooker. The Proxy option never really worked out for me.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE TO THIS POINT SCARAMOUCHE! You are greatly appreciated.

Stay warm,
Marcus

This is my current list of sites.

Click on Sports, and go looking for snooker amongst the active channels.
There is one that has a union jack icon (IF IT ISN'T ACTIVE IT WON'T SHOW)

Haven't used this one, came up in an AZB thread

Remember: These things may not necessarily start up at the appointed time, and may terminate unexpectedly, and, similarly, reactivate.
You have to be prepared to go looking, and retry sites.
Also, some may use the same URL indefinitely, some only for a day, some only for a single session.

Sometimes the turkeys running the feed will decide to switch to other sources for a fast check of some other sport - sometimes they stay there.

Many of these sites have links to the same sources.

Some streamers offer better quality product than others.
At times I've had two screens open - one for the quality of the video and one for the commentary.

If you have a few minutes before or during a match, you can go through the list above and create a list, say, on a word document.
Put the cursor on the link to a video feed.
Right click
A menu will open up
Click on "Copy link location"
Paste into the Word document

Now you have an easy to use list if a chosen link craps out

I've never signed up on the bookie sites. I hear that Betfair requires money be put into a betting account.

Also recommend connecting to a TV to really enjoy the snooker matches

A final word - Pay attention to where the source originates. For example,
The German Masters gets much more complete coverage on EuroSport in the UK than it does in Germany. This morning it started at 4 a.m. EST :boring2::mad:

The proxy thing is really not that hard....

Here's my favorite website with a list of verified UK proxies (usually about 2 dozen)
http://www.proxz.com/proxy_list_uk_0_ext.html

I've got it down to a few minutes to get back up.

I use internet explorer for this particular application (while I have firefox up with the list of proxies.)
Set the home page of IE to www.google.com (this really speeds things up) and put an icon for IE on your desktop.

In IE, click on tools -> internet options -> connections -> lan settings and select the proxy server checkbox.
Copy the address and port from the weblist. (e.g. 62.189.102.229 port:8080)
Make sure there are no spaces! You can click advanced to see if everything got updated right.

Click OK and exit IE.
Open IE
If you got a working proxy, instead of showing google.com it will actually show google.co.uk so you don't have to verify where your proxy is. And away you go to the BBC website.

If it takes more than a few seconds, then pick another proxy from the list and do it again. It either got killed, or it's too slow to watch the bbc streams anyway.

Just one other note, that a lot of programs that copy the connection settings from IE to find the internet (chrome, most virus scanners, steam) so in a few days when the proxy got killed, you'll get warnings from other random programs that they cannot access the internet. So just got in to IE lan settings and uncheck the proxy server

Indeed, Super Bowl was the driving force behind why the streaming sites were seized. What I don't get is, even if the streams are down, what television set in the United States would not be able to watch Super Bowl anyway? It's everywhere and it's not like a special high-def PPV subscription...

The Canadian government has demanded the regulating body, the CRTC, to redact its usage-based Internet billing policy, or the feds will force them to. We're in the clear, it seems. The funny part is that the order was dropped via Twitter.

Also, it would be a good idea to contact your local television provider about licensing snooker broadcasts from Antie Beebs or Sky to show here in North America. The Canadian broadcasting companies are still fairly open to public opinion (and hopefully the same applies to American broadcasters) because they are generally under close surveillance by the government, so it may be worth a shot. We already get limited BBC programming here through digital television subscriptions, so BBC Sport should not be a problem by any stretch.
