Help with buying a break cue

Just wanted to ask if the common census is that you break with the same weight cue as you play with?

I play with a 19oz Pechauer which I love and am considering getting a break cue.

Not because I'm such a great pool player but because I like things to be consistently always the same no matter where I play and I don't feel like looking all over the place for break cue at every pool-hall I go to........but enough on that.......

So my thoughts are to stay with Pechauer and get their break cue as well.

Should I stay with the same weight as my play cue or does something heavier make more sense?

Thanks for your help.

Poison break cue is the best break cue for the price it's in the 200 dollar range. If you want to spend more I recommend the mezz dual force break cue or predator bk3 those are in the 400 range. Break cue weight is mostly preference but I suggest going to 18.5 if your playing cue is 19

I use a Pechaeur break cue. I don't think you'll be disappointed. As far as weight goes, I've read cases for both lighter and heavier...so I'd suggest staying at the same weight, but that's only a suggestion.

Brick is the best break/jump I have used. Had a mezz it was good too but not as good. Never used a poison but I do have a poison jump and again my brick out preforms it too. Good luck with your choice but I recommend trying them all out.

Lighter

Break cue should be at least half an ounce lighter than your shooting cue. It's all about your hand speed bro. Your hand will be faster with a slightly lighter cue than with a heavier one.

Very good advice,.......you will have a faster ball speed with a lighter cue. Its bin tested with a mechanical machine to keep the same force every time its shoots. The results favor the lighter cues. Yes there is other factors that you might like, taper, ferrule, or tips.

break cues

Advise on a break cue.

Everyone has a different opinion, do you really want advise from anyone but a pro, OK

I bought a 18oz used cuetec with a sst shaft. 40 bucks on ebay.

I am not a pro, and what I do know that is that every pro can kick my butt with a house cue.

Tools do not make a person a mechanic.

It's entirely personal preference. IMO the most important factors are weight, tip, and taper.

The best thing you can do is walk up to everyone you know and ask to try their break cue. You'll quickly get a sense of what you like and what you don't.

Edit: If you don't already have a jump cue, you should get a break/jump. The extra joint has no noticeable effect on play and you will be glad to have the jump cue option in your case.

I would agree with the posters, go a little lighter...18.5 sounds just right and u won't hardly notice the change.

Also, I'd suggest a stout taper, wih more rigidity and less vibration, I'd suggest an ODEGA tip for sure, hands down, the best brek tip out there...leather, doesn't miscue, and hard as a rock.

I'd seriously look at sledgehammer...the original, also, MEZZ gets a lot of good reviews, and if money isn't a concern, lomax would be my go to.

As far as customs...Also great reviews on Gilbert and omen. And reasonable too.

Thanks to everyone for your excellent advice.
I will take every one of them under close consideration.

Will certainly see if I can't try out other people's break cues and see what works for ME! with a particular attention to 18.5 oz cues.

Will also look very carefully at the brand names you recommended.

I never mentioned the price but it basically is under somewhere 300.

This is why I was considering the Pechauer ($270) and the fact that I already have one that I like but I am definitely completely open to other name brands.

Thanks again for your help!!!
