Help with cue, please

This is the cue I have (20 years old or so). I don't have my first ever cue as that stayed with my dad and he either lost it or something.

Do you guys know what type of connection I have exactly, please?

Gloor, Howdy;

If the folks at the stores don't have the knowledge then go to where the game is played.
Strike up some conversations with folks/friends that are playing. But don't be intrusive.
Ask them if you can try their cue after they are finished playing. Ask them questions, ask
their thoughts as to what they like about their own cues and what they might not like so
much. What they would change. Don't just jump into the deep end of the swimmin' hole,
might not be a way to get out if need be.

Was typin' along when you posted the pictures. Looks like a 5/16 X 18 with a piloted shaft.
So, what's wrong with using it? If you liked that try; https://josscues.com/

Thats a great idea but I still have to find a pool hall that is a bit more serious than the one I have close by which is filled with young kids drinking and playing with house cues. The tables are not even hoovered so there is always dirt on them.
I'm sure there will be a better pool hall but I just have to find it first.
As for my cue, well the shaft is warped a bit so its no longer straight. Also, there is some dull noise coming with each hit which I assume its the ferrule or maybe the tip.
I can play with this for the meantime but I want to replace it so I can also get better. This was just a great cue for the occasional fun but I'm ready to step it up a bit :)

What do you think is better for longevity (butt wise)

Predator Blak4 - its 4 pieces, right?
vs
Predator P3 - its 30 pieces

Or are those pieces in the shaft only so if I take CF its irrelevant which butt I choose?

Sorry, the website is not super clear on that or I can't find it.

Meucci is changing quickly. The company was sold in October to two guys who are taking things seriously. I bought my first Meucci 30 years ago and just got it back from a complete refurbish, it looks brand new. I also have purchased four new Meucci's in the past six months, in both wood and CF shafts. I have a Revo, Defy, and Meucci CF. I prefer the Meucci.

I own the Casino-8, it is a great shooter.

Yes, their CS has been shitty lately but is clearly improving.
LATELY??????? Meucci's CS has sucked for 20+yrs.

The main difference (to me) between the Cuetec and the Predator is in the taper. Cuetec is big on "super slim taper" -- ideally if you have friends with each cue it would be great if you could try both.

I, much like you, got back into pool after an absence of 30 years. Predator and Cuetec (and Carbon Fiber) seemed to be the "big dogs" in the arena, so I bought one of each, figuring I'd find the one I preferred and then sell the other. They're both great cues, and for the longest time I mainly played with the Cuetec CT948 playing cue.

Over the course of the last year, though, I've slowly gone over to the Predator REVO side. So I finally sold my two cues I'd bought (actually, 3 -- a McDermott with the CF Defy shaft), put the money together and splurged on a Predator P3 with a 12.9mm tip. I'm the kind of OCD person that would constantly be searching for that "perfect cue" if I didn't just put my foot down and make myself stop :)

Honestly, for less than $1,000 I don't think you would be disappointed with either the Revo or Cynergy. Just be sure to try out that Cuetec "super slim" taper -- because it really is!

Here's the Predator P3 I settled on:

awesome cue. wish i could afford it but at 1400 dollars damn. Im more in the 900-1200 range.

5/16 x 14 looks like.

Your old cue looks like a decent enough cue. Why not pick up a low deflection or CF shaft for it.

But, I think I saw earlier that you are willing to spend 2K. So why not get a custom like a lower end Josey, or similar maker.

I think that was £70 in 2003 or so.

I'm thinking about that also. My worry is that if I get the CF and then one day I decide to change the butt then I'm limited to the selection. Ie. I won't be able to get Predator P3 for example as they have different locking system (I'm still learning about it all).

The selection is crazy. I've started with Meucci casino, then Predator IKON 5 and now I'm on Predator Black P3. I also looked at Cuetec but their butts seem to have some weird transparent (frost glass looking) joint which I'm worried will break. Its hard to pick :)

either 5x16x14 or 5/16x18. count the treads in one inch of pin. its an asian import cue.

Hi,

I found this posted in another thread, this is directly from Bob Meucci back in 2017.
Without doubt Meucci's customer service needs to be overhauled, it is very poor to say the least.
I owned a Meucci 21 century with carbon fiber shaft and it played very nice. I have owned over 30
meucci cues in the past 35 years and never had a bad one!!!!!!!!!!!

Meucci Cues-The Standard Of The Industry
Back On Top

To all Meucci Cue players and those of you considering what cue to purchase, take heart, here are the facts:
Meucci Cues have been made exclusively in only five locations-
From 1963-1971-Chicago area north suburbs as BMC Cues.
1975-1979 Memphis, TN on Getwell Rd
1979-1997 Olive Branch MS (there was also a smaller satellite factory that operated in the late 80's and into the 90's in Senatobia MS, in addition to the Olive Branch facility)
1997-2006 Sledge MS.
2006-Present-Byhalia, MS. This is our current location.
Meucci Cues have NEVER been made in China, which has been falsely stated in this forum.
Unlike other manufacturers, such as Predator, Lucasi, Players, some lines of McDermott, Viking, and several other brands, Meucci Cues are totally made, in our shop, from raw lumber and materials to finished product, with the exception of the leather tip and the rubber bumper (side note-at one time, early on, even the rubber bumpers were made by my wife in her oven at home!)
FYI-In the last 42 months, Meucci Cues have won more prize money and more tournaments than all other brands put together, and that includes the so called custom cues that in some cases are just assembled from parts bought from suppliers, blanks, joints, joint rings, etc... We at Meucci make it all from raw stock, making us one of the only true custom cue makers.
We invite anyone interested in seeing our operation to come visit anytime, and like the last three years, I will be here to welcome you. Our address is 3709 Highway 302, Byhalia MS
Bonus FYI-Who are the players that are doing all the aforementioned winning you ask? Well, I'll be happy to tell you-how bout this list?
Loree Jon Hasson, Jayson Shaw, Dennis Orcollo, Skyler Woodward, Chris Lawson, Mike Massey, Max Eberle, Kevin Cheng, Corey Deuel, Devin Poteet, Dennis Hatch....the list goes on, my apologies if I left someone out. These players are going out with our cues and winning-not with specially modified one off cues, but cues just like the ones that can be purchased by anyone-our cues are built to perform, and each one is built that way-they aren't assembled and then over-modified to make them perform-we build each one of them to perform, and that's what they do. What was said in the past is still true to this day-One Ball Better.
In the interest of full disclosure, in 2006, we had a line of 6 cues designed by me and 80% manufactured in China, and we ferruled, tipped, and reshaped and finished the shafts here in our Byhalia plant. This was the Medici line of cues, and it was clearly advertised as 80% made in China, and 20% finished in our plant. 100 cues of each model were sold under the Medici label, and the decision was made to cancel the line due to inconsistencies in quality.
In closing, anyone on a forum like this can say anything they wish, with no facts or proof, and hide behind the anonymity of the internet-the less informed are allowed to say anything, true or false, mostly false....
But now you have the absolute truth about Meucci Cues.

Thank you, yeah I have read that before when I was waiting for admin approval.
Its great to hear that Rob got involved but from what I hear and read he should start his housecleaning with CS first.
Its great to boast about the cues but if customers struggle with CS its all garbage. Fix the company first if the product is good and then take it to the 21st century as customers now are way more demanding. Adapt or bury it

Also, why is bad if its made in China? Apple makes almost all their products in China and you don't see it in the final product. China is amazing at manufacturing so made in China is not a bad thing. Its how you execute it but thats on you, not China.

Anyway, my head is leaning towards Predator, my heart (for some reason) is leaning to try the Meucci.
Didn't like the other brands. Cuetec has some weird coating on their cues (why?) and the other that was ok was McDermott.
Other brands didn't spark me.

Will be tough to decide :-)

Must be the luckiest guy on earth. The old stuff was great. Went downhill bad when his kid and son in law tried to run into the ground. Some of the crap they made was horrible. CS was the WORST. They recently were bought out. Hopefully new blood/$$ turns them around.

Predator stuff is FAR better made than anything Meucci can make. ONLY thing i'd consider from Meucci is the Pro(wood) shaft. The one's i've hit have been nice. Stay away from anything with inlays if getting a moochie.

Yeah, I liked the Casino joker version a lot. Then I discovered Ikon from Predator which is similar style and now I debate:

Do I go flashy but have a nice treat for myself (don't care about others as it will be for me)
OR
I get the Predator P3 which is cheaper, low key and looks good.

Or just get a shaft for my old butt and be done with it (save money and no treat) :-)

My $$ would be on a Mezz. I own one and love it. They may have the best QC in the biz. You can get a real nice cue for $600. Their Ignite shaft is great if you like cf. Kinda pricey but a very nice shaft.

I would not hesitate to buy the Casino cue w/carbon pro shaft if you have
your heart set on it. I don't think you would regret it. There are a bunch of
the Joker cues on ebay.

Curious question, or you in any shape or form associated with Meucci?
