Help with lizard wrap......

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Paul Mottey with a lizard wrap. My hands sweat a little when I play and the wrap feels a little slick in my hands so I have to keep wiping it off. By slick, I mean it almost feels like there's Armour All on it so more slippery/greasy than slick I guess. When I grip it, it feels like I have some sort of lotion on my hands which I don't.
My question is why does this wrap feel different that other lizard wraps I've played with? Most of the others feel almost sticky which is the way I was hoping this one would be.
Is there something I can put on it to make it feel different without having to change the wrap?

Thanks,
'Mash

Maybe the previous owner used Armor All on it.

I have seen stranger things.

Dude! I thought the same thing but I didn't want to just assume that. It's strange, I've never felt a lizard wrap like this.

If I can't find a solution, I'll end up selling the cue and find one thats wrapless or has a leather wrap. I really liked the style of leather on my Blackcreek.

Both Motteys Ive had were w/ lizard wraps I agree they can get slick. My hands arent sweaty tho. Ive wiped the wrap with a slghtly moist cloth. the effect was the wrap lost its shine and got a little 'sticky' To bring back the shine - just burnish with a soft cloth.

Ive seen the Mottey you acquired, be a shame to flip it because of the leather. Maybe try a different leather?

Are you talking about authentic lizard or lizard print?

Sounds like you have the real stuff. No good for poolplaying IMO.

The Lizard Prints, on cowhide, are much better for poolplaying.

Yeah, it's the real deal. It's funny though as I mentioned I've played with lizard before and never had this problem.

Anyone have any ideas what I can use to clean it? I was thinking of diluting some kind of degreaser/cleaner and seeing what happens.

Maybe I'll buy another lizard wrap and test out some cleaning stuff on that to make sure it won't damage it before going for broke on my Mottey.

Anyone else have any input on this subject? If I can't figure out whats causing the wrap to feel greasy I'll probably end up selling the cue.

I came aross this on the Tiger website. I wonder if this is whats on it.

I hope not. That is not intended to be on a leather wrap other than Stack. Also used for linen.

I have several cues with Ring tail lizard wraps on them including my player and not any of them feel as your describing. They are all very consistent in feel. They are slick but not slippery/greasy (oily) as your describing. It does sound as if the previous owner may have used a oil based chemical of some kind to clean it.Before using any other type of ''cleaning chemical'' on it I'd try to ask the previous owner what if anything was used in cleaning it.Putting something else on your wrap my compound your issue.Hope you can figure it out!Good luck,JR

I had a Pechauer with a lizard wrap and never had a issue, but I now have a Josey with baby lizard wrap and it gets slick. It is very bad when the humidity is high. I am the original owner of the cue and nothing is applied to the wrap. I am not sure if it is the same lizard you have but it sounds like we have the same problem. I have found no solution yet except for wiping it with a towel between racks.

HOW COULD YOU SELL THAT BLACKCREEK. That cue was gorgeous. The new owner is very lucky. Maybe the previos owner Armour All'ed it to make it shiny. I put whitening toothpase on my ferrules to make them super white. They smell very nice afterwards.
