Help with play

In a tournament a player has a shot and aim it with the mechanical bridge, then decides to shoot it without it, but he leaves the mechanical bridge over the table (the playing area) while making the shot. No ball contacts the mechanical bridge. Is that a foul? Enlighten me!

I'm not sure but it may have been if the bridge could been used as an alignment or aiming aid. I'm sure we'll find out from some more knowledgable rules afficionados.

I though you can have nothing on the playing surface of the table if you´re not using it. I thing that´s called Using the equipment inappropiately. But I´m not sure.

In snooker, the game where bridges are used a lot, leaving the bridge on
the table is considered acceptable.
I've seen it done many times at all levels, including world class.
Of course, you're subject to any fouls involving the bridge being hit.

...and if I was gambling with someone who was using the bridge as an
aiming aid....the only acknowledgement I would give to that....
...would be to ask to raise the bet.

Use of anything as an aiming aid is a foul. If it's not being used to aim, then I believe no foul because IIRC a chalk on the table is not a foul as long as it doesn't interfere with the roll of the balls, and is not being used as an aiming or bridge aid.

I wouldn't call it, it seems like an awfully nitpicky thing to call.

No foul...unless one of the balls contacts the bridge on the table. The courteous thing would have been to remove the bridge.

I am 90% sure that in both the APA and in the BCA (leagues) leave the bridge flat on the table is a foul. You have to be touching it, you cannot just lay it down on the table either to shoot with or not.

I agree. I do it occasionally. Other players get all excited as they're sure some ball is going to roll into the bridge. Of course, it doesn't, because I have a pretty good idea where any balls I move are going to go. Sort of fun!

But I wouldn't do it in a serious competition.
