SBE in Valley Forge PA only a little over a month away. Joss and Jacoby have booths there as well as many more cue builders and dealers. Probably less than a hour away from you.
Joss makes a nice cue--I used to have one myself. One thing to decide first is what shaft thickness you prefer. Most Joss's come with a 13.25 mm tip diameter. That's a bit on the thick side for many players. That factor was what led me to sell my Joss. Yes, you can always have a shaft thinned down, but that's a hassle and an expense that you would probably prefer to avoid.
In your price range I'd recommend Jacoby, as one other poster mentioned, and McDermott. If you search the Sale section here you'll probably come up with some Jacoby's at reasonable prices--they play great.
I'm definitely going to try hitting with a Jacoby before I commit to anything. I'm assuming that the cheaper ones play similar to the more expensive ones, just not as fancy.
This has been the case in MY experiences.

I think this is my answer. Thanks!
I made my decision on my cue. I went to the SBE today and hit with a bunch of cues. After hitting with them the cue that really blew me away was the Mezz. I wound up buying the Mezz EC7-W with the hybrid II shaft. This cue really hits nice. I didn't really think that I was going to go for a Mezz and the price was a tad bit higher than I was looking to spend, but I think it will be well worth it in the end.
Another cool thing that happened was Mika was there and as I bought it I kiddingly asked the girl who sold it to me if I bought it can I play him in a game of 9-ball. She went over and asked him and he agreed. So I got to play a rack of 9-ball with him and get my butt kicked. It was very cool!! Got a couple of pics as well.
I want to thank everyone for their time and advice here!!
You lose to a banger and you think you got a good cue? :grin-square:
Mezz is a highly regarded production cue. Enjoy.
I've read a lot of good things about them, and now I see why. Now I just need to learn how to use it.
LOL. You could spend the rest of your life losing to that guy and become a world class player in the process.![]()
