Help with thoughts about Unknown pool cue?

Last time I talked to Janes he had wood in reserve for custom orders.

The better maple is harder and harder to get. No doubt.

Sorry, off topic again, but do you notice the low quality Curly Maple Joss uses in their cues now. It just looks so generic to me. And, look at the retail prices on what they are charging for those very generic looking Joss cues. They look like DP cues, if I had to compare them to another cue makers cues.

just to clarify what is a cheap cue. certainly 50 bucks is.

for me 150 or less is a cheap cue. but still may be a very good hitting cue and very playable and worth having for even a regular player.

300to 500 cheaply priced simple custom or more famous makers of better production cues but generally not top notch. but very good.
then they go up from there and quickly you start paying a big premium for the name.

Yes, although different size boxes, believe that's a copy of the Jim Rempe series, mid-80s.

Yeah, they did not get the design exact, but I find it crazy that they put that highly figured BEM in the forearm. Lol, the Copy is probably also from the 80's. The wood may have come from wherever Meucci got their wood from. Who knows.

Yeah, it seems that a lot of people do not think that a good cue can be had for under $200, but high quality Vintage Helmstetter cues sell all of the time for under $200. And, for $500, you can get a Diveney sneaky, on the used market. Can't imagine that any cue hits better then a Diveney sneaky. After that, you are just paying for the Name, workmanship, and material / inlay, and artistry cost.

I have seen Meucci knock offs, from China, that had amazing highly figured BEM in the forearm. Believe it or not. And, no Decals. So, I do not believe that just because a cue is a Copy from China always = Garbage Quality.
Funny thing is, I never said it was garbage. I think only one person popped in and said it was. I never said it couldn't play just fine.

Again- You're the one coming here asking.

You commented on the bumper.

I should post a bumper ID challenge just for you. I have hundreds of pictures of them from searching for 15 years, with their ID.

That particular bumper on the cue you posted was supplied on numerous cues made in Taiwan for Crystal Leisure in the 80s for example. It is often confused with an Adam bumper. The profile of the one I posted can be found on certain US made "vintage" cues worth pretty good money in the market today, although it is not the same. The reason you are asking is because you don't know these things, obviously.

Arguing about the relative value or quality compared to the cue I posted is beyond ridiculous.

Frankly, I'm done with it.

Decal on butt sleeve. For sure.

Same seller has another cheap cue with same decal on the forearm.

Since the OP is co convinced the cue is so much better than the one I posted, I recommend he use the "Buy It Now" option for $261.23. Shipping id free, so it must be a bargain. Do it right now. Or stop wasting everybody's time.

Try this one:

How is it different from this one?

US? Import? Japan? China? Taiwan? What are those two cues?

Would you like to know the make? Model? Manufacturer? Catalog? Of the cue you posted?

Then again, look carefully. Sometimes all is not as it seems in a glance, especially with poor pictures.

This is a Block Letter Joss with a variegated nylon wrap in what looks like an inexpensive box case. The wrap alone makes many pass it right up.

I have not uncommonly seen $1,000 custom cues in cheap box cases. Why? Who knows? Grandson inherits grandfather's cue, knows not what he has, sticks it in whatever case he likes that's cheap.

Huebler Custom Shop cues are commonly found in such cases, and they can command quite a price these days. Same with old Viking cues.
And, yes, occasionally a really big name custom.

If you ask me, always look past the crap.

When I bought my most recent "good" cue, I told the guy to keep the cheap box case in the pictures. I was worried he would try to ship it in that case.
I'm not sure that is a cheap case. Better pics would help, but looks like a nice wood case to me.

That is the only pic I have.

One clue to the quality of the case, even with the low res picture, is the divider inside. As you can see it is quite bowed as we see so often in cheap cases with flimsy dividers.
