Help!

As many of you know, I will be headed to England next week for exhibitions at the Riley's clubs. I just found out today that during my visit I will be making a penalty kick during half time at the Colchester United Football Club. I've never kicked a soccer ball in my LIFE and I don't want to make an idiot out of myself AGAIN! (They've played my ESPN break mishap ad nauseum:rolleyes: ) Does anyone have any helpful hints? Please don't say something like "don't slip on the muddy pitch and fall on your head", I've already thought of that!

Wear pants and stiff leather sneakers with either hard leather or heavy rubber over the toe. Kick the ball about 7ft high into the top corner.:)
Sorry best I can do for advice.

Terry

Yeah, Jenn, I think some practice kicks at your local park before the trip would help a bunch! I think you will impress them most with power and velocity, even if it is not terribly accurate... So get a running start at the ball and really pound it with the tip (toe) of your shoe. You don't want to be standing in place trying to bunt it at the goal. They will laugh at you! And take a pair of cleats or soccer shoes with you so that you won't slip! You will do fine! It's all in fun anyway!!

it is freezing and pissing down with rain at the moment. So you could go for the comedy vote and run up and do a huge belly flop into the large mud puddle before the ball. Then sliding along on your belly you can nut (head) the ball as hard as you can. The goal keeper will probably let you score because youre a "girl" :p. Now all you have to do is run off waving your shirt around your head to celebrate your goal.

The crowd will love you!

:D

You can kick a penalty shot 3 different ways...

The easiest way is off the laces of the shoe,.. it'll give you a lot of power, so you'll easily make it to the net. You just have to be careful on the aim. If you want to know the 2 other ways. Just ask..., I'll post them for you too.

Good luck!

Oh, yeah... I forgot the shirt waving part, Jenn. You should do that even if you don't make a goal!

And I must be the only pool junkie alive that hasn't seen your break mishap.

Coop:

For God's sake, Man! Don't hold out on us now! Post the other two kicks!

Thanks!

Alright BillYards,.. Since you asked.

2nd Option... Standard inside of the foot kick, struck with the inside edge of your shoe near the arch. It's hard to get distance and it's a very slow moving kick.

3rd Option... Strike the ball with the instep of your foot just outside of your Biggie Toe. :) This one take practice and is a really good kick if you're a natural. It's a strong kick and accurate, if you can excute it.

Now that I've helped you out Jen,.. I expect some Safety Lessons. Because I stink at them. I could try to hide the cue ball behind the Empire State Building. ..and I'd still leave my opponet with a wide open shot.

LOL, too funny! Glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor during my hiatus. :p I hope all is well with you Craig.... are you going to Derby?? We've got some pissing to do. ;) I've got all week to do it!

Jen, sorry that I don't have any advice for you but two good things have come of this... A) you just learned that not everyone saw the break mishap, that we've all made before. ;) B) Craig just made us all laugh. :p

Ditto, snap it though...with force. But add to that...no matter how they make your calves look....high heels with pointy toes are NOT the proper shoe choice. :p Keep that in mind and you'll do great.

Landshark77 <~~quit the soccer team before she made it...they wanted to make me run in circles at 6 am!!!!!

Coop definitely gave the best advice along with LS.
I played for 12 years, 3 times a year.
DO NOT kick with your toe. There is no accuracy.
Plant your non-shooting foot right along side the ball and drive your shooting foot throught the ball with your toes aimed at the ground.
Your non-shooting foot actually acts as a guide as to which direction you want to kick. If you want to aim for the top right corner, aim your non-shooting foot slightly to the right and drive your laces through the ball.

Good luck and I'd love to see pics if they become available.

Koop

Oh and one more thing.
If you want to aim high, lean back slightly.
If you want to aim low, get your body over the shot.

Wow....thanks everyone! They are providing me with cleats and I think they are going to get me into the stadium to practice the day before. I'm going to print out this page and take it with me!

I know they are getting me a tight jersey so I don't know if it will be hard to whip it off and twirl it over my head, but that is a great idea!

I'm going to bring a camera and try to get someone to take lots of pictures. I promise to post them no matter what happens...even if I fall on my head!

Congrats on the new job, I hope it works out! I just started a new job two weeks ago & I'm already looking for a new one. :( They totally lied to me during the interview.... it's the risk you take when changing jobs. I really hope you're able to get away for Derby, I know we'll have a blast! ;)

Jen, are you going to Derby this yr? I don't know if you noticed it in the main forum or not but AZB along with 1pocket.org have gone in together & will be getting our own room with our own pool table. A week long meet & greet. :) A few of the pro's have agreed to come in & do challenge matches or lessons, or whatever.... I think I can speak for the group when I say that we would love to have you stop by if you're going to be there.

I haven't decided whether I'm going to DC yet. I've been traveling so much that it might be nice to get a whole month without flying anywhere. If I end up going I'd love to hang out with everyone!

THE One...Congrats on the new job, and thanks for warning me that you'll be playing in Nottingham. Also, stop making excuses, you're not that far away.

Sorry to be honest I never actually looked on the map! Ok so its not that far but I decided not to drive to Notts or I maybe would have drove down just to see the belly flop/shirt waving lol!

I might be in London Sat/Sun though but I'm not sure if you'll be around that way. If I don't see ya have a great trip anyway.

PS
The tables in Rileys Nottingham suck, it felt like they had sand on the cloth lol!

Junior ;)
