Kevin,
First of all, on one hand I would have been happy to sell you the cue and it would've been a real honor, on the other I am sure you'll understand me when I say that I am also happy to know that by chance it will be at its new home for a long period.
I am very thankful for your notes, with all honesty it means a lot to me. You are right, it is just stuff most of the time, and at some other times they are just more special. It will help resolve the matter.
In the end the experience of achieving and acquiring something like this in whatever one likes to do as a hobby is something that can hardly ever be forgotten and that is invaluable. I guess that is why maybe not all, but many of us have been here on AZB, dealing and trading such fine instruments.

As it turns out, had I owned it, I would have just ended up offering it to the guy that recognized it for what it was right away. So it all worked out for the best (except I didn't get my greedy foot in the door for my slice of the pie).
Its a great cue and its going to a place where it will be appreciated, so you did just fine.
I sold a Burton Spain numbered/dated cue one time, on AZ and eBay at the same time as is my habit. Guys were chiming in on the AZ thread with all sorts of Spain information, and there was some explanation of the EOL cues. I'll tell you, I was reading that and picturing Burton and Joel working together on what they both knew were to be Burton's last cues, I could actually see that caring tradition passing, and I was so touched by that, well I just had to sit down and cry.
We all get involved in the collecting of stuff for a variety of reasons, but I have always paid special attention to Burton's items ever since that day.
I don't know if you remember when I was selling those Spain shortie blanks Ernie Gutierrez found in his shop or not, but when he opened that drawer and I saw those things, my eyes bugged right out. Ernie agreed to use those splices and make some Spain/Ginas, one of which I sold to the guy you just sold your cue to (actually I think he bought the blank from me and then contracted with Ernie to build out a cue). So now besides Spains, he has a Gina/Spain and a Hercek/Spain, and who knows what else.
Thanks again
Kevin
