I know this might sound silly, but ever since I started playing pool in 78 on barboxes, and then the 8; box my dad got me then when i got real serious in 85. I awalys had one weird thing on my mind.

I know this sounds weird, but I often wonder how may feet, miles, what ever measure of distance you perfer. I just wonder how many miles I have rolled the balls, when you break the balls on a 12'snooker box the CB rolls about 23-26 feet. When you break the balls playing 9 ball on a 9' box how far is the sum of the distance of all the balls rolling after the break? And then when you run out there might be about 50-70 feet of distance travelled as a sum total of the CB and OB's depending on how the balls lay.

I dont know why I awalys wondered about this. Just how far have I rolled the balls over the years? it must be 100's of miles. I'm not sure why I never made this thread, just forgot to.

its kinda dumb, but for what ever reason it has had my interest.

Has anyone else ever think of this, i thought of this playing pinball first. how the ball would traveled after i played a 3 hour session.

Then when I see players like Buddy I know the number must be huge, or SVB for a young guy. It seems the farther you roll the balls the better player you'll become-except 1P players might be the exception. 3C players must roll the balls the farther than any other players, given the nature of the game.

its a useless number and impossible to ever know, but i would really like to know just how many feet i have move the balls around the box all theses years, and pinball too.

I kinda like you way you think.
Me, I've always wondered how many women in the entire world were getting boffed at the exact same instant I was potting the money ball.

Pool Balls

I think it would be around 2 thousand miles over a 40 year career of nine ball.
Of cueball travel only.
All object ball travel would be about 2.5 to 3 times as much.
Any probability experts ?

Alot of miles. But the question that i think needs to be addressed as well is do you subtract feet for reverse english? Or do you add that? :-)

Interesting

Interesting question...

I'm 28 years old and have been playing pool about 7 years now. On average I've probably played atleast 3 days a week for the whole 7 years and for atleast 3 hours. Take into consideration the games played and your opponent shooting approximately 1/2 the time. 9 Ball the cue ball travels more than 8 ball...

I have always had a really strong break. It wasn't until the last 2 - 3 years that I started to be able to control the cue ball and not jump it off the table. Do I count the times I jump off the table and the cue ball goes to the other end of the poolhall? lol

now your getting complicated, LOL

I bet its 100's of miles, whats a mile 5500ft of there abouts, I imagine in a session on 9 or 19 ball a mile is a resonable figure, so after 25 years thats a pile of sessions, or practice drills there might be 15'X15' balls so thats 225 feet, do that 10 times and there is 1/2 miles. My single best accomliishment in pool was makinmg 53 spot shots in a row, and yes #50 was the hardest. I have never came close again, I had Randy my friend spotting themthe CB was comming back to me every shotso with the 2' the OB travelled and the 14'-15' the rock travelled you get 53X17'=581' right there or .11 0r .12 miles, these far fuzzy nymbers im doing in my head, it went didnt take very long I was lined up and poped hem in the hole fast as he could spot them, except 50. I did take my time-but it didnt rattle. Never came close again. Big pockets on a a Murray with brand new 860 so they slid in. It isnt as impressive as it sounds I bet that that Bartrum could have made 250 or more that night,

lots of guys talk about hitting a million balls, thats a diffferent topic, I think its possible off the cuff, i need some time to really be sure. but if thats possible those balls had to travel some distance, look at how wore down some balls are at old rooms, thats miles and miles. sure the impact with the cushions and other balls cause wear, but i bet we would all be suprised just how far we have rolled these little 2 1/4" balls. why i think of stuff like this is weird. Also this post is long cause im practicing typing on my new computer, Sorrry:thumbup:

Go roll some balls boys....
