Hey all ~ Let me bring this to your attention:

Let's say you are an advertiser like ME. And, I have placed a full page color ad with them for my upcoming Orlando Open Event, as I did. I had a deal with them for 3 full page color ads. The first ad turned into a blurb in the back area under tournament listings. The second materialized 6 weeks late, and the third, well its July 17 the and InsidePool is still nowhere to be found.

NOW, lets think about how many players that my event has lost because the ad didn't get to them in time....

I tried as many others for months to get in touch with them only to be disconected, put on endless hold, sent to mail boxes and listened to endless voice messages! On one occation, I called the subscription desk and got a REAL person, I almost got through to JR. She says, hold on he's at his desk, then she comes back to the phone to tell me that he has "stepped out".Then I got JR's right hand man Bill Perry who is a showman in making excuses for JR. What a racket they have going, they must hire people to be the fall guys over there!

Now lets also take into consideration that Billiards Digest runs 2 months out, meaning that this is July, they are already done with the September issue, so I have NO chance in HELL getting another ad in with them....

Also, let me say that I feel InsidePOOL is the best magazine out there WHEN it is out there. I am extremely pissed off that it has come to this.

Well.. I will have a many more things to say in the future, but I am still stewing on it for now...

Jeeze, you need to GET OVER THIS. Move on. Ask for your money back. If you don't get it back, report them to the better business bureau. Report them to the Post Office for mail fraud. I don't know. We all get ripped off some time or later, I am just sorry it happened to you and I do have sympathy. You can't cry over spilled milk. Next time, offer them 15% down and the rest if they produce in time. Work with them. They have screwed up and will probably work with you.

WW ~ It's not easy to GET OVER IT and MOVE ON as you mention, it's not like I am selling something that can be reran, this is over $100,000 event that has lost players and exposure because of it!
Spilled milk dosent come close to this!

So your saying I might finally recieve n issue?I am sorry for what is happening to you eydie but I have paid a long long long time ago and have never seen anything but an offer to renew my invisable subscription that I surely got RIPPED off for.
They did know how to cash a check though they got that part down right.Oh yes and they know how to ask you if you would let them have some more free money also.

The only issue I have seen from them is for me to bend over in the first place.I have it right here september 2002 and we paid for I think it was 3 or 5 years what ever was the most at the time.

It was about $70 or $80.Just a tiny fraction of what you have invested but it all ads up.I finally gave up because they will spend more time changeing names and stories before they will give in.

They will tell you that you are right but sorry your loss but if you would bend over again we will do it right this time.Best to save your breath only a few get through to them.I think they actually flip a quarter for who gets an issue.

Eydie, have you spoken with your lawyer yet?

Fees for advertising...3 pages worth?? is just a little more serious than a missing subscription.

Direct Advertising (flyers) and targeted advertising (small ads and banners) is the immediate solution to your problem. Direct mailings to all of the previous tournament participants will produce the most immediate results. Those are the players most likely to sign up and play in your next tournament. And targeted ads to those areas of the country where you are most likely to get participants from.

I would be so amazed to see some little $10 box ad in our weekly newspaper here in Missouri, I might just consider if I could make it to that tournament. But, what I would like to see more is who finished No. 89th in your tournament and whether that player was from my state. And, the way I see it, if you purchased an ad from a media buyer who sells ads to several small weekly newspapers as a group, then that publication is certainly going to be willing to publish the results of the tournament which was advertised in its newspaper, or, it could be negotiated with the ad.

When you place an ad in InSide Pool just who are you seeking to get to play in your tournament anyway? The top 128 players, and the pool nuts who play in at least one tournament a month, already know where each and every tournament is being held as soon as its announced, when, entry fee, hotel rates and when to pay.

They know because their sponsors, cuemakers, backers, friends, family, and other pro players and tournament directors, emails and websites tell them first. Your ad then is just a reminder to someone who already knows the specifics to your tournament.

So what players are you seeking to get from the industry magazines? Certainly not non-tournament players. AND YOU DO WANT TO GET NEW TOURNAMENT PLAYERS, DON'T YOU?

I have finally figured out why, in a tournament that might have 187 entrants (laugh) that tournament directors only release the top 32 or top 16 players names who finished in the money. It is because they are protecting the top ten player who happened to finish in the group at 126, out of the money. So what?

If all of the players in the tournament were listed it actually creates more notoriety for those who finished in the money because it lets a non-tournament player know the player survived from a group of 187 rather than a group of 32. And, most probably every player who took the trouble to travel hundreds of miles to play in a tournament has some individual pool playing notoriety of their own, which then would only increase the notoriety of the tournament. This is a win win situation. The days of unknown players are gone forever

With their history what is the big surprise? Why didn't you already have a deal with BD? Like the guy who is late for work because he got caught by the train. He knows there are tracks between his home and work, leave earlier. It is your own fault and you had it seems no contingency plan. Inside pool is very undependable, who doesn't know that. I am sorry, I just can't feel sorry for you. How many times do people have to get screwed by IP before they get the idea not to truse them. If you wanted to buy an ad with them fine, take a shot, but you should have also had ads in BD as well. Was the IP ad cheaper then the BD ad and that is why you went for it?

I made the deal with IP last September, IP is more expensive than BD, but I felt at the time that they got more to the player. They are always at the big shows and they cover more events than BD.

No one is asking YOU to feel sorry for me. I am making a statement about the advertisers in IP and how we have got the ass end of it too. I see all the complaints regarding how people didn't get their magazines, this is how the advertisers feel..

Eydie is not the first tournament director/promotor that has gotten burnt by IP by them not running an ad when it was supposed to come out. Looks like IP sends their issues out using the same shipping company that they used for all of those orders they got on their website that never arrived.

Or could it be that they just can't afford the expense to send the issues out to their advertisers? They always make sure they get boxes of magazines to the major events that they are attending. And they are always there signing up some new sucker for a nice long three year subscription.

The money keeps coming in and the magazines do not keep going out. Or at least they don't go out in any kind of orderly fashion. Does anyone feel that J.R. and Co. are screwing the pool magazine buying public or is it just me?

All I can say is this would piss me off to no end and I would be doing a war dance on somebody's back and Riverdance on their forehead. I'm very serious. A number of years back I promoted seminars and paid to run some ads in the Washington Post, which they botched. The impact of that hurt badly because what one doesn't realize is that TIMING IS EVERYTHING. Advertising cycles MUST hit on a specific day before and event and successive days thereafter to stimulate a proper response. If not...you're in a world of hurt. You need to punish someone for this Eydie.

How did you pay? If you paid via credit card by chance you can request a charge back from your credit card company...or I would file a small claims case for each ad?
As far as IP being better than BD, I just do not agree. I do not think it even comes close. The design alone is so hard to look at, I do not get why pepole like this mag at all. The printing & the photos come no where near BD. At least at BD you would be dealing with a professional staff and talking to a human being.
Good luck.

And I thought all of these issues were worked out....

I just renewed my subscrip.... doh!!

I hope you get the subscription, really I do. I enjoyed the magazine, and thought it was good. This is why I did business with them...

Today is July 18th and my event is in 2 weeks. There is no magazine out with my 3rd ad. I guess I will look for it in the Aug edition if there is one of them!

did you forget who now owns IP, Eydie ?,,,,looks like their hype is just 'HYPE' ,,,,remember their promises to correct mistakes incurred by past
ownership/management ????,,,,how soon we forget,,,BRING ON THE FLAMES !!
