hi Cue Gallery...

i often look here at this forum. you guys have some of the most unbelievable cues ever created in the history of the world! some are high dollar cues, and some are just as breathtaking, but not so expensive. but all and all, they are All beautiful cues.

i am sorry to open a post that is not one with a "masterpiece" cue. i do not have any cue to share with you. i want to share with you another thing altogether.

i just want you to read a thread. that is all. it is this post:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=120702

that is all i have to say.

all the best,
smokey

There are indeed some of the best cues in the world displayed right here in this forum. But at the same time you don't have to own a Bushka to post here. If you are proud of what you own or play with than by all means post it up for all to see. It can be a Meucci or a Hercek, it doesn't matter.

sorry, but...

maybe i am just a stupid fool. i'll give you that.

but can you tell me why this forum with contributors with so many unbelievably beautiful cues, many for unbelievably great dollar cost have not replied to help Boys/Girls Clubs?

someone, please explain this to me, clearly.

but be forewarned, i think i already know the True/Real answer.

and it's so sad,

I understand you wanting to do something for the community. Just because I or someone else in the gallery section did not respond to your thread in the main section does not mean we do nothing to give back to the ones who need it. Due to my location my options are limited. I do a lot of charity work here in Afghanistan when time allows it. I also help out back at home with numerous organizations through my brothers and family folk and also when I am home I donate time and other things when it is possible. So needless to say but I do give back my friend. I commend you for starting the thread and I hope you can make something happen. If there is anything that I can do let me know.

John

2 friggen 42 in the morning give us a break. LOL. I only have 1 cue lol, so my spare money will have to go to My son, sorry I cant help. Good luck.

Here's the problem. You posted this "idea" in the main section, with no formal plan on what to do with the money or even how to collect it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would send a payment once you have something set up. I read your thread and I have some money sitting in my paypal account. I was going to send some money your way, but there was no information on how to make a payment.

Also, there are a lot of people out of work these days. I get asked for money every time I leave my house. Every other day, there is somebody asking for money to send somebody to a tournament or for whatever on the forums.

Yes, my cues sell for good money as do other makers in this section. Don't think for a minute that just because we sell a cue for $1,000 or $2,000 that we have a lot of money. It takes a lot of time and expense to build those cues and nearly every dime we collect gets pumped back in so that we can make more cues. Maybe you were referring to the collectors and not the makers, but that's not how I took it. But, since you think we all have a lot of money to waste, I'll let you know that this year, I have made less than 1/2 of what I've made the last ten plus years. This economy is killing my main business and hopefully it will turn around soon.

Maybe once you have a real plan together to collect the money, more people will be on board. Until then, maybe you shouldn't judge everybody here.

maybe it was my error, as by your initial answer in post 2, i thought you were saying not to be ashamed of posting my favorite/best cue. therefore thought you did not read the thread i was referring too. sorry if i was wrong.

about your post highlighted above, thanks for sharing that! and for doing All YOU Do!

and finally you asked: "If there is anything that I can do let me know". well, since you opeded the door, here is a list of things for you to do:

1. Be SAFE!
2. Come HOME SOON!

all the best,

i don't give anybody any breaks! it's just a personality flaw!

but... as much as i hate to do this; ok - i'll give you a break. [that was even hard to say!]

anyway, of course Your Son is most important.

i just want to add this:
i only asked for a dollar or two. and if someone gives $1 or $1000 dollars i will be the only one that knows [except i will give a copy of my paypal account at the end to 1 or 2 respected folks on the forum to verify all monies received were properly credited and given respectively].

so, a high dollar gift would be wonderful, but even a $1 gift will be wonderful too!

and finally i will tell you something that may change your mind:
Rocket354 donates his time to 1 of our Boys/Girls Clubs here in vegas. you can ask him directly, but i know for a fact that many of the children do not have a father who can care for and love them; as you obviously do Your Son.

that's just the way life is,
smokey

you really want to beat me up, huh? maybe i deserve it. but here are the facts - nothing but facts [not updated since yesterday and it is greater now]:

11/17 - we first created this thread, the forum response was just Wonderful!

11/18 we addressed a cursory plan - getting permission from AzB, info on tax consequences, whom to donated to, paypal info, etc. plus we already had 16 people committing to money or material gifts.

11/19 we were starting to nail things down a bit - post 43. more commitments for gifts.

11/20 Rocket354 who volunteers at a local Boys/Girls Club here chimed in on post 55 with more info and insight of Boys/Girls Clubs.

11/21 we kind of had most of the basics in place - post 57, and we started to get contributions almost immediately with about 25 donor commitments.

and finally here is the last list I posted of donors [not updated as of yet today]:

where we stand as on now: 11/22 @ 10:25 PM

well Tony, i have said all i can say.

all the best,
smokey

p.s. by the way...
this was not in any way, shape or form directed at cue makers per se. as we all know we have buyers here that can spend huge money, i really mean HUGE Money and yet not one even showed any concern for 'our kids'.

it is so sad to me. it is so disheartening to me personally. i was taught differently i guess.

be that as it may, i too am having a terrible time financially this year. but i and my family will do with less now because i think, very differently than some of me Az friends in this section of our forum.

i have nothing more to say.

Tony (and everyone else),

The paypal address to send any donations is smokeyblack@cox.net.

The plan is to use the money to make a pool-related donation to some Boys and Girls Clubs. The exact form of the donation and which and how many clubs will be determined by just how much we get in donations.

If the total donated amount is small, we will probably choose one club and redo their tables with new felt and rubber, give them some quality house cues with good tips (trust me, many of the clubs have warped, cracked cues with no tips), nice balls, and maybe have some sort of tournament.

If the total donated amount is larger, we may try to organize a larger city-wide tournament, or else do the above for a handful of clubs. There are many options available, and whether you donate or not, your input into what would be the best use of the money would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Edited to add: The purpose of all this is to help out some disadvantaged kids during the holiday season, and also to help encourage participation in pool by the younger generation. I do volunteer work for the boys and girls clubs and I can say from experience that giving the kids good equipment to play on, and holding tournaments, even if the prize is small, are huge steps in fostering interest amongst the next generation. We are helping out kids, but we're also, in our own small way, helping the future of pool.

Thats 10000% right, one of the things I miss about making $$(I havent since april) is doing things for good/legit causes, right now I'm sliding backwards like most everyone else, when I get some traction again I will be right back at it. I still support a family in Vegas-and one in N.Ca with free housing etc, but I still like to do more. I will do something with smokey for sure-not what I'd like it to be but something still.

Well like Smokey said, every dollar counts.I think it is possible for us to raise several thousand dollars via AZB for it,this site really is the nuts!

I own 17 cues, my cheapest is about $1000. I know the collections some people on here have leave mine in the dust.

This to me by no means says anyone sould feel obligated to help out no matter what their financial situation.

I chose to help out not only through a donation but I've also contacted a Boys and Girls Club in Hamilton Ontario and have setup a day to go visit, asses the needs of their billiard/game room and use my resources to help out.

They told me there is holes in the pockets, rips in the cloth and the balls don't roll straight. I contacted a local cue maker here that also sets up tables and he agreed to donate his time to do some maintenance for them. He also had some old cloth without rips we can put on. He is also a reseller who can get house cues very cheap so we can help them there as well.

The point is it doesn't have to be money, make a point this Christmas to go and visit a local Boys and Girls Club, maybe even take your own kids so they feel like they are helping. Check out the situation there and even if you can just give them contacts that will give them fair pricing for quality products, or maintenance it would be appreciated.

I'm excited to go there, help out, and make things better for the kids. My contact there was so happy to have the offer he can't wait for us to come help.

I'm going to try to bring out a couple of our tor Junior players to play with the kids there and show them a few things.

no need to say, but i will...

we have decided to close and abandon the Az'ers Xmas Fund. it was just not working. most of the money was already refunded, just 2 more need to be.

and what is most remarkable to me is this:

so many of you with thousand, or more precisely many thousand dollar cues could not even offer $1 for a simple Xmas fund.

i must say i had higher hopes for all of you. seems i was wrong.
