hi

I don't think any of the people that are willing to put up $100 are looking to make a large profit on this. I'm doing it mostly for John to play at VF. If he does well and I make a few bucks out of it,thats fine too. I would use it to help send someone else to another tournament. Johnnyt

I'm enjoying watching this shake out. The math's easy enough. John gets the same that he'd get if he were backed by one person, and the other share gets divided by 10. The hard part might be that John would need to hang around and BS with 10 hacks instead of just one!:D

I'm not going so I'm one hack he doesn't have to worry about.:D Johnnyt

For me, really, it is not about the money, but if you read his original post, he is offering 50% of winnings, so he would take $5k if he won $10k.

We just want to help him out because he is a stand-up guy and balls-out player... plus it would be fun to be in the action, even if it is for a small cut.

I totally understand the part about helping him out....you are right he is a stand up guy and a great player/image for American Pool. I just hope the others are doing it for that reason and not trying to make a huge profit on him like a meal-ticket.

I cant believe that 10 people are talking about chopping this 10 different ways!!! Lets say that 10 people put up the $100 each.....if John plays his heart out and wins say $10,000.....thats $1000 each. What cut are each of you gonna give John? Minus expenses, and a fair cut (by fair I mean he should get half the winnings since he is the one playing) you would all get about $350 each. No offense to John, he is a great player and I hope he gets someone to help him out. He has proven in the past that he will fight hard for the money, but chopping it 10 ways.....thats ruff. If I had the $1000 to put up, I would. JMO.

Yeah, just to clarify, the chop would be 11 ways if 10 people go in; JS gets 50%, and 10 other people get 5% each. I don't think anyone here wants John to have to play for any less of a cut than he's already offered.

Ok, we got 9.... we need one more person to pony up Ben Franklin... then we can start making the Paypal arrangements and contact John.

I agree with mthornto that we need to send the money to him and he will be the contact sending it on to John Schmidt.

I'm in for a $100. Can give you the money at the pro benefit Wednesday night or Paypal. Would rather give you the money in person than Paypal. More lucky that way :)

Good deal!!

My reason for throwing in was that I would give better odds on John to do well in a field of a million folks....rather than bet on myself in a field of 10!! :) :)

I hope he does well, and just the thrill of knowing I've got "a horse in the race" is worth the 100 bucks.

Just to be fair, ya'll.....each person using Paypal should throw in $105 total...just to cover the fees and such. Just my opinion...and what's another 5 bucks??

Good call on sending the PM out, sir. I eagerly await a paypal I.D. to send the money out for John's run.

Good deal. Before I have anybody send me money, we need John to accept. I will PM him and see if he is still looking for backer.

I love you guys to death! Although its sad that the state of the game has come to this point of necessity, what you guys are doing exemplifies the true spirit of the game! Rep to each and every one of you!

Peace,

VIProfessor

P.S.--Wish I could get down with you, but right now I'm so broke that I need sponsorship my d**n self! (Don't worry, I'm not asking!:) )

I can't believe where this thread had gone

First of all John asked anyone interested to pm him if they want to back him. Don't you people think that he probably got at least 12 pm's from people wanting to put up the money. Especially Purdman who already won a ton last time. I do not understand why John (maybe he did) just didn't contact him. This talk and recruting `10 people is way premature without John's approval first. Why deal with 10 people. I know it is a great getsture and fun to put it out there but way nuts. IMHO.

Hey, he asked for the cash on a forum. We came up with a solution that will put $1k in his pocket. Why should he complain? If he has a solitary backer, then I am glad for him (and the backer).

But he came to the community and the community (mostly) supported him. He can choose to accept whatever backing he chooses.

mthornto is going to PM him. He will accept or decline. That's it. What is premature about that?? Plus, it has been kinda fun already!

Thanks, Rudy. You understand the spirit, Man! When you moving to PR?
