Hey guys,

I have been toying with the idea of having a high run award for the next season of our Straight Pool League over at Bayshore Billiards. It is a handicapped league but I would like everyone to be able to qualify for it.

What would be a good format to use, maybe based on % of handicap ? This way even those who have lower handicaps can be involved.

Let me know what you guys think, I think it would be a nice thing to have as an additional prize.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Handicapped-High Run (HHR) is the statistic I use to break ties in the handicapped straight pool tournaments I run when deciding who moves on from the round robin stage to the bracket stage. I also use it to pay out high run awards as well.

I calculate it as a percentage of the player's handicap just as how you mentioned above.

I calculate it as a percentage of the player's handicap just as how you mentioned above.

For instance:

A player that is ranked a 150 runs 50 balls that would be 33% of his handicap

Other player is ranked a 100 he runs a 50 that would be 50% of his handicap

The high run wod be awarded to the player has the handicap of 100

Does that sound right ??

Just have to figure out to keep track of it all in excel, that is once I speak to the room owner about the idea.

Thanks

In my league we determined the handicap that divides the league into A and B players, then awarded two high runs, one for the A group and another for the B group.

That's about right. If you have statistics from previous years you could see if the awards would have been mostly to the high or low players.

Does your league have 100% handicaps?

Sorry for the delay Bob,

Yes it is 100% Handicapped, since we have only had the league for 1 season. I don't have that much info to go by since not everyone filled it in on their paperwork each week.

I have figured out a way in Excel on how to track the highruns.

I am going to base it on what the highest percentage inning of the games that were played through the season. since every week everyones handicaps will change what I have come up with is (current wk score / hr = %) then at the end of my chart it shows me each players max percentage. so then all I have to do is sort the chart by the Highest percentage, and then find that week's game on the grid to say what the high run was.

hope this all makes sense, the room owner over at Bayshore Billiards loves the idea.

so I am gonna play around with it some more so I can have it ready for season 2

Thanks

I know my league doesn't do the high run with any handicaps but its a great idea. My 14.1 league does tournaments every Sunday morning and the high run always gets like a extra 20 to 40 bucks.

I gave a player 1 credit for every time that player exceeded his previous high run (established from the year before) and divided the prize money according to the credits
earned. This way the player competed against his own high run, not one that he could not achieve. It seemed to keep every interested not just the better players. In the beginning their were a lot of credits earned, but eventually everyone's high run will be harder and harder to pass. good luck

Our league is very small - just nine players this season. We decided to pay out more than 1/2 of the monies in high runs - that is high runs for all. This is an effort to incent taking the aggressive break shot or shooting that dead ball (that you aren't quite sure of).

So, we use a weighted average. Highest handicap is a 170; lowest is 85. So the lower handicaps are calculated as a percentage of the highest. For instance, our 170 has a high run of 32 so far this season. A 110 has a 22. His weighted run is 170/110 x 22 = 34.

Idea is to pay out everybody something for weighted high run. Easy to do in this small league; our goal is to improve players and also create incentive for others to join.
