High Stances

I know there are many styles that many different players have when they shoot. Today, you see majority of players with a low stance. There were great players of the old days like Mosconi, Fats, Hoppe, Crane and Balsis with very high stances. Id like to know of any great players in the last 20-25 years that have a high stance.

Just want to see who was successful with the new, better equipment of the last 2 decades.

i think a lot of players of the past used a high stance because they played mostly straight pool. Do you consider Corey Deuel stance an high stance? Also aging change a little bit your stance, I have a video of Reyes in 1988 and he was more down on the cue. Now he has a low stance but higher than he had in the past.

Reyes has had back issues recently...as you get older it's harder to keep your chin down on the cue--especially when your back and neck don't want to cooperate!

Thats a really good point. I am 25 yrs old and I use a much higher stance like Corey Deuel. I think a lower stance will always give you better accuracy but I use a higher stance for more control and maneuvering of the cueball. Also, I seem to get a better snap on the ball....

I had a straight pool lesson with Dallas West a few months ago and he spent about an hour trying to get me to change my stance so that I was more upright. Works for him, but not so much for me.

I love Dallas West's game! Besides Reyes I think he is the smoothest player I ever seen play. Check out youtube and search Dallas West, the first video about straight pool of him running 100 is the video to watch. A perfect example of his game.
