Higher end dedicated break cues

I recently sold a Lomax jump/break but unfortunately I never even chalked it.
Still have the matching jump cue w/ext. that I've never chalked either.
Everybody seems to love that Lomax now that it's been chalked, except the guy that actually bought it...he went back to his old cheap import break cue.
I've sold several "higher end" break cues in the last year and still have an Ernie Martinez, Mike Stacey, Icebreaker, Showcase, Mike Gulyassy Sledgehammer, Poison VX2.9 / Venom shaft, and a really cool cheap one I bought on Ebay.
With all that, I am breaking with an unknown uniloc butt (think it's a refinished BK) with an OB break shaft.
Sometimes I just break with my player when I feel that I need more control vs. power, but when I really want to crush the balls I prefer a phenolic tip.

I can comment the quality of each cue, but from a breaking standpoint they are all good.
Looking back, my all-round favorites were the three original Stingers I had by Jerico.

I have a gullyassy sledge hammer and a mezz, sold the mezz and now have a brick break jimp. Does both incredibly well. You can't go wrong with a brick, the more people that use them the more people want them. Many have tried to biy mine and I just refer them to alex brick. Hands down the best one I have used and no better "warranty" out there. Weather you are the original owner or not he stands behind his work.

Break cues

I find a used cuetec with a sst shaft on e bay for 40 bucks.
They make a great break cue,

Your looking for something solid , cuetec cues are as about as solid of a hit as they come.

Most of the games I win or loose has nothing to do with the equipment that I am using..
Except for the tip other then that , its either skill luck or I lost my stroke.

But any cue that has monster, killer, or any tuff looking image on a stickers makes the best break cues

Or you might try getting a cue bless by a monk .

Always keep one open

A good dedicated Break Cue is not a play cue. The entire Break Cue is made to do a specific job.

Here are just a few differences;

1. weight
2. balance
3. Tip diameter
4. Tip hardness
5. Tip construction
6. Tip crown radius
7. ferrule
8. shaft taper
9. shaft stiffness
10. joint
11. butt length
12. butt diameter

I feel that a dedicated tool is always better for a specific job.

I could not agree more
It is always fun to discuss these ideas.
I think what is best for me is not what is best for others. Same applies the other way around.

I would be glad to let you try a new Fury SR break cue.

If you are interested, just pm for details.

The break is over rated. Most all of the guys with a bone crushing break that aren't a touring pro, I take them apart my first time at the table if they fail to run out. They splatter the balls all over and stop whitey in the middle, but they can't get out and don't know when to duck. Their expensive break cue doesn't help them, other than teaching them to jump up off every shot.
What I see is many talented "trick" rackers that will swear the rack is tight. Against them, I break from a different position every time and mix it up with follow and cut breaks.

Low deflection properties on a break cue help out a great deal. Obviously the low deflection is a benefit towards accuracy, but the low deflection also helps keep the cue ball from getting airborn, which is great for higher speed breaks. Break cues with low deflection properties usually run a bit more than 100-150.

Eh....

Minimal at best.

So I am in the market for a new break cue.
I am looking to upgrade from my BK2.
I am not interested in Jump Break cues.
I tried looking into the used break cues, but I just don’t see anything I like.

It appears I am narrowing my search down to 3 different cues:
1: Mezz Power Break Pro with the (H) shaft.
2: Lomax break cue
3: Mike Gulyassy Anvil break

As for Lomax cue, there is little to no information out there.
All I could find that everyone seems to love their Lomax cue?

If any of you have tried or use any of these above please feel free to shoot me a PM or post here what you think about the cues.

I know the recommendation is to just try it before I buy it.
This is just not possible for me with these cues.
However, if you have one and want to mail it to me I would be happy to try it out and then mail it back to you

Use the search function, I posted my Mezz results a few weeks ago.....

if what is best for you is not best for others, the same applies reversed. So this entire thread is unnecessary, bc others opinion obviously won't effect your purchase.:shrug:

Hey! We don't need none that logerical nonsense 'round these parts.

Breakers

Haven't heard anyone mention Gilbert's breaker, they seem to be fairly priced. Who's got one out there?

Agreed

Of the choices you listed, I prefer the Gulyassy.

I have several custom matching break cues and for my own preference, chose the Pete Ohman. It has a longer forearm so it is deadly on long jump shots where you must be very accurate. After doing my own search, I found Omen J/B cues to be the best fit for me.

I realize the OP is looking into a break cue only and not a jump/break cue, but I agree with you on the Omen j/b. I just got a nice used one 2 days ago and it detroys the rack on breaks and is accurate and precise on jump shots. Omen would be a great choice for the OP, too. IMO
