hightower or mike erwin ?

I never owned either but know 2 different guys that had one of each.For me personally they both were nice but the Hightower was more to my liking.The hit can be personal,but the fit and finish seemed really nice on the Hightower.Both guys makes nice cues,for me it would be Chris Hightower.Goodluck

i have held 3 mike erwins but havent hit with them yet. they have a good feel to them and the inlay work was nice.
have only seen hightowers work on his website. love the designs and the different types of wraps he uses. his prices seem low for the amount of inlay work, thus i was interested in the quality of his work.
thanks for your opinion. keep them coming. want to get as much info as i can before i make a decision
I haven't seen or touched cues from either, but I've dealt with Chris Hightower on other matters (tools and materials) and he is very customer service oriented. He will continue to get my business.
thanks for the input. have heard nothing but good about his customer service, thats why it was narrowed down to him and mike erwin. i have held 3 mike erwins and they are quality items. as for hightower i like his designs and think his prices are reasonable from what i have seen on his website. wanting something different from the same old points and diamonds look.
like i said this will be my 1st and probably only custom, just wanting the most bang for the buck so to speak.
Look at the quality of the inlays, sharpness .
very good advice. kinda hard to do when all i have to go by so far is pictures on a website. by the way i will be getting with you to make me some jps for an old stick i picked up at a pawn shop. i dont know what size pin it is yet. gonna get the house pro at my local pool hall to measure it for me. got to get him to put a tip on one of the shafts anyway.

one of my first
custom cues was made by hightower, it was the nuts. he knows the business and will listen to what you want, then sometimes makes suggestions that make sense. his knowledge of the different woods, design features makes him a great builder. i have bought 2 lathes and many supplies from him, he is always ready to answer questions and share his knowledge.
he is just a great, honest guy, that makes a great cue and sells great supplies.

thanks for the info. i was looking at cues they already have for sale. my head is so full of ideas on a design im not sure what i want lol. just know i dont want the same old points and diamond thing you see so much of.
a while back i saw a post in another thread about guys failing to update what decision they made after asking opinions on here. i regret to say i fall in that category.
in the past i have bought several mid to upper level production cues on the spur of the moment basis so to speak. i bought them simply because i liked the looks, how they felt in my hands, or how they hit , or just for the hell of it lol.
after deciding i wanted a custom cue this time i gotta admit i spent many sleepless nights thinking about what i wanted . i decided to go way over budget and get a fancy phiippi . i couldnt afford to pay the full purchase price upfront. we made a deal to make payments. have it half paid off now. as soon as i get it i will post pictures in the cue and case gallery.
