One assumed scenario is that they play four safeties before running -- on average -- 28 balls. That would give a 5.6 BPI average.

I think they were 75. That's what they were five years later in the WC 14.1.

Women's races were to 75, except in the finals, where the race was to 100.
 
I thought it interesting that in all of the qualifiers, there was not a repeat winner. I understand they were regional in nature, but normally the road players and pros travel quite a distance to play in tournaments of that caliber.

But once you're qualified, there is no reason to qualify again. I'm pretty sure it was a "winner goes" format rather than a "most points on tour" format.
