Bob Jewett and I recently filmed a bunch of stuff together. Here's one of the clips. It deals with the classic proposition shot where the goal is to knock a quarter off a ball on the foot spot. Several approaches are presented.

Please let us know if you have any comments, feedback, or questions.

Enjoy,
Dave

very cool. The only way I've seen it done is the hard stop shot bank back into the quarter.

wow, you guys have too much time on your hands and access to some really cool equipment!

We did the filming for all of the new clips over a few days between Christmas and New Years, when Bob and I both had some free time. We actually had lots of fun. All of the editing, illustration, and narration wasn't as exciting, but it feels good to see the final results.

By today's standards, the equipment isn't really that great, but it gets the job done.

Dave

I went to a carnival and this guy had a table with a ball in a circle with a quarter on top of the ball. The trick was to hit the ball with a cue ball using a cue and make the quarter land in the circle. The trick to do this is using draw on the cue ball which gets it out of the way so the quarter will drop straight down. I stepped up and did it the first time and a bunch of times after until the guy finally realized I knew what I was doing!!LMAO
PS I gave the little stuffed animals to the kids watching!

That Carny wasn't very smart. He should have used a weighted and/or off-size ball. Then it would have been more "challenging" like most true Carny games.

He did as well as the cue tip was a little slick!

You don't even have to hit it with draw, just cut it one way or the other so the cue ball goes off to the side. The coin is going to drop straight down regardless. I'm going to have to go watch this video because the description sounds like a really old bar bet, knocking the coin off the ball without it landing on the dollar bill.

Agreed. Draw would be dangerous with a slick Carny tip.

... unless the CB is over-sized (or if the OB is in a divot) or hops into the OB, in which case the OB will hop, tossing the coin.

You are correct, although we don't use a dollar bill in the video.

I have to admit that I learned a few things by watching Bob during the filming of these recent clips.

But don't tell him I said that ... his head might get big. :grin-square:

You guys should do a high speed slo-mo video of that trick shot where you have a ball in each corner pocket where a guy stands at the ball well and puts a finger on each ball. Meantime, there's a nickel somewhere near the foot spot and you hit the CB hard towards the nickel and the CB flies up and hits the guy in the nuts.

You should hit the shot at different speeds, spins and cue elevations to see how each variable affects the guy's nuts.
