The difference between you and moi is that I don't have a problem saying, "I don't know" or "I have no knowledge of this" instead of slinging baloney.

Lou Figueroa

You're a little confused my stubborn friend. I'm not the one making all these claims about phenolic resin content of various pool balls, etc. You have presented yourself as some kind of expert on pool balls and most specifically Cyclop pool balls. Now your expertise appears to be based primarily on hearsay.

By the way the correct expression is not "bait on my breath", but "baited breath." I don't want you to stumble over your tongue and look foolish.

Good luck getting through to Lou. In his 80+ posts he has flip flopped all over the place. He complained about the fact someone threw an insult at him, then, proceeded to insult numerous posters. He called out someone for saying pros didn't like Cyclops asking them to name pros. A pro player came on and verified the fact he didn't like the balls and most pros he knew didn't like them. He called this hearsay and demanded more proof. Someone quoted a number of pros and Lou said any pro who said this was a fool for criticizing a sponsor (after he had baited the posters to name the pros'). His continued critique of hearsay followed by all of his hearsay to prove his points is classic.

He bragged about his ability to twist the truth in one of his posts. This is his long term modus operandi, twisting truths, quoting things out of context to prove his "point" knowing full well he is forwarding lies etc. etc .

Good luck getting through to him.

You know he came looking for you at the HOB, but when he saw you he realized he had better things to do, so he told a nice little story about no one wanting to play him. I thought that story was classic Lou. What I know to be true is the best players in the world have no trouble getting games there, with you or Phil or Rich, or on and on.

Long before you came along back in the 80's I was king of hill in there, but now I can't beat anybody and I'm man enough to admit it. :grin-square:

I have said I am no expert. I have said I have no affiliation with Cyclop. All I know is what knowledgeable people, like GS, PS, and MG, tell me.

And oh BTW, let me help you reel your tongue back up: the "bait on my breath" phrase is a Smorgism that goes back to RSB. Smorg used it frequently and, in tribute, I use it now and then. Have been for years ;-)

Well the funny thing is that others have reported exactly the same experience at HOB:

"When I'm in town I go to Santa Monica Billiards (HOB) or Plush Pocket in the Valley.

Except for the champions, everyone is scared to death to play anyone they don't know or they want so much weight you have no chance. I just spent most of the day at S.M.Billards (HOB) and no one would play me. I play close to Danny's speed. He beat me once, the second time I won, the third time I was up a game he quit me. He wasn't stealing so he quit.

Doesn't anyone just was good even action?

Rant over……."

"LA is the worst pool action for a city its size in the world. cant get shit bet here, they have ZERO gamble. Rooms are nice, guys on the rail are cool but just no action, its pathetic they have $$$, LA aint cheap to living, but they dont bet. the card rooms get action is all i can figure, i used to get good action here years ago, not sure what happened. I cant get more than $300/rack bet in SM (HOB) and nobody on the rail will side bet. Its a miracle i even got that game, and when i beat it-the spot HAS TO CHANGE or there is no more action, they wont flip a coin for $20 here, F'em all i got better things to do. its hard to get a game in there."

One of the last times I was there, I'd spent four hours hanging around and finally had to leave to go have dinner with my Mom and One Pocket Richie Grenier came in. We'd met before and talked awhile, and I told him though I'd asked everyone in the room to play, including Shades, I couldn't get a game. And Richie looked around the room -- filled with players -- and said, "I don't know what's wrong with these guys."

You know, Jay, it's a funny thing when people will not give you the benefit of the doubt and just say something like, "Well, chi-it happens. Sorry you didn't get a game. Call next time you're in town and maybe we can get you matched up with someone."

Kinda reminds me of the time four years ago when I was in LA and drove all the way down the coast to play you some 1pocket at your house.

And when I got to your town and tried to phone you, repeatedly, for the exact address, you refused to pick up your phone. I remember even sitting in my rental car and posting here asking if anyone knew how to get a hold of you. Now, taking a page from your play book, I guess I could say you were ducking me but that would be unfair. That would be me, not giving you, the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how it looked. Chi-it happens ;-)

Funny thing about that day: After I couldn't get a hold of you I drove over to HOB, couldn't get a 1pocket game (again) and ended up playing with the 3C guys, lol.

Most everyone knows you twist the truth so often that you eventually believe your own fabrications. I am a big man and I forgive you for all your lies. Now you can start fresh. (No need to thank me.)

You never left a message on my home phone. Otherwise I would have called you back. I got lucky. I can't beat you anyway. Last person I played at HOB was Danny Shades and he beat me three games.

I called the only number I had for you numerous times, once I pulled off the highway and was siting in your town -- no answer, no chance to leave a message or you didn't answer said messages, can't recall.

Then you didn't have the right number. I would have played you and made a donation to your travel fund.

I had the right number, we'd spoken just the afternoon before on the same number. You said you didn't answer your phone at certain times or something.

The point is that I believed you, as funky as your explanation sounded. I know that in this regard you're a straight shooter. I'm thinking that deep down you feel the same about me. After reading me for 20 years on the internet -- having met me and spent time in the booth together -- you know I take pains to be accurate and don't make stuff up.

The post-quote function seems to be messed up in this thread. Anyone know what causes that?
