There is a room I go to once in a while in Atlanta that has half Hollywood pool tables, and half carom tables (I don't recall the brand). The Hollywood tables from a player's perspective are not as good as a GC, but they are ok. The main things I don't like about them are the pockets. They are cut weird and the plastic inside of the pocket is not so great.
One cool thing about the ones in this room is the rack is stored in the ball return box, and the balls land on top of it. So at the end of the game, you pull the rack out (it has a bottom), and the balls come with it. Its cool from a banger perspective, but from a player perspective its not that useful.
The formica on the rails looks like plastic dip of some sort. Its nothing at all like a countertop grade formica.
BTW, these tables are probably 20 years old, I have no idea what the new ones are like.
