Holy Schick ?

http://www.indyq.com/custom-cues/schick/index.html

Mr Schick has been mentioned in the greatest builder alive thread. I had no idea what his cues went for. If, like I said If I had 10k for a cue or if you did, which I do not, maybe you do would you buy a Searing or a Schick purely for playing not to resell?

I think I played with a cue very similar to the one that they have for 12k, a cue dealer I know had a few cues he brought into a room including a Schick.

I have to say I would not get either one.
A. too much for a playing cue
B. I'd be too worried someone would steal it, ding it or simply think I'm a conceited show-off to bring a 10k cue into a room to play with.
C. I did not like how it hit any more than the cue I have which was 1/10th that price.

I have always wanted one of Bills cues but they are purely for the collector now. Probably couldn't get the man to build a player.
And why would he his cues are in high demand and he has no trouble selling them. Why build ten cues for 1k when you can build one for 10k.
Shooter you and I have had a conversation about this before. You can get a lights our player for 1200 and under I just don't see any reason to spend more than that for a playing cue. But if someone wants to more power to them. Just hope im not there when its dropped or some piece of s--t steals it at a tournament.

Bill may make cues for collectors but EVERY one of his cues are meant to play regardless of the price tag... Some of the best players made

In its simplist form

Hand made sneaky pete, not a blank, which do you choose for playability only. Let's say you can't see either cue period, looks like a bar cue off the wall. What characteristics make you choose one over the other. Does one have a preferable taper or balance to you. What makes these two builders cues so desirable. Everyone knows I'm a Runde fan and I have a few builders who I really want to try their cues and they are actually affordable. listed below in no particular order.

Sugartree
Rat
Desi
Vigus
Jensen
Blanks by Anouncerville and ernieeyeocues
Cohen
Double D

Any other builders local to you that people should be aware of? Some of my list are well known, some are not.

Yes, I played with mine yesterday afternoon. While Bill is mostly making collector’s cues, he told me that he would always be willing to make a cue for me because I play with them. Playability is priority #1 for him. My cue is from ‘93 and I had 2 additional shafts made in ’97. I purchased a couple extra shafts off AZB just over a year ago and they play like my shafts from the ‘90s.

I understand players’ beliefs and agree that a really fine player cue can be obtained for $1K. Actually, I can do it for less. But I don’t believe all cues play alike. The very best cue I have ever played with that I can confidently assign that designation is my Bill Schick cue. I have only played with 2 other cues that I like as much and both had that same feel. One was CMD’s BEM Searing and the other was a Gus Szamboti (not the one that I owned). The instant I pick up my cue, I feel totally wired into any shot on the table. Distance and amounts of spin don’t mean anything. No matter how hard or soft, the cue plays the same. It makes balls and I am never thinking about the cue or compensating for whatever I am trying to accomplish. When I am out of stroke with another cue, I pick up the Schick and everything falls into place.

I wouldn’t play with one of Bill’s artistic cues or similar cues from any other cuemaker. But there are Bill Schick cues available occasionally that are meant for play. I also wouldn’t buy a Schick cue for flipping. I had mine refinished almost 2 years ago. It seemed a logical time to offer it for sale. All I received were offers from people who were trying to gouge me into prices below what I paid for it in ’97. I’ll keep playing with it. I can afford the cue. My estate can take the hit. It is the best $3K I ever spent.

There is a great looking Schick cue on the IndyQ site. The bottom cue in the top picture is ivory jointed and has Bill’s smooth leather wrap. The only leather wrap that I like as much as Bill’s is Pete Tascarella’s smooth leather. Not exactly a 4P4V cookie cutter cue, but built as a player. I would be interested in buying it, but I can’t play with 2 cues at the same time.

Bill is the nicest person I have met in the business. He is my favorite cuemaker and he made my favorite cue.

They don't all go for thousands. I had a Schick sneaky in excellent condition go for around $900 on ebay a year ago. Cue played about like most high quality sneaky's including Scruggs. Besides building a great playing cue, Bill is known for doing his own scrimshaw work. He's quite talented.
