1. many people should be very happy that millions of people are taking their agrressions out on the keyboard instead of each other.
2. Bill Stroud has made significant contributions to cue making and cue collecting. That he has failed to deliver on the contest he started does not erase those contributions nor does it diminish the value of his cues. Art is art regardless of what the artist does. Bill has taken nothing but people's time and made it impossible for himself on this forum in his remaining years. Perhaps that means nothing to him but I think it does mean something. The fact is that there are many practicing cue makers (and one casemaker -me-) who have outstanding obligations to take care of. We are not necessarily late because we are not honorable. Some of us just suck at time management in a horrible way and don't know when to say no.
3. People have very misguided notions of the "honor" of humans throughout history. People often say oh the 50s were better, or the 1800s were more honorable, or the ancient samurai were noble, or the knights were noble. In fact that is all fantasy concocted for entertainment purposes. As historians delve deeper and deeper they find that there is actually very little true honor and very much deception among people. If you really want to know about honor then look to the pirate's code. By most accounts pirates were generally pretty consistent about following their adopted rules.
We are probably more honorable now as a species than at any time in our history. The only thing is that we get more news of scams and dishonorable acts than any time in our history. So therefore it seems as if there is less honor in the world now than in the past. But actually I believe it's simply that we get bad news much faster now and bad news travels twice as fast and four times as far as good news.
For one small bit of evidence one only has to look at the population of the Earth. We now have access to more ways to kill each other than any time in the past. We are able to kill greater numbers at one time and yet we continue to populate the planet. Violence per capita is at the lowest level ever. Yet we "feel" that it's all around us when actually the chance of being violently accosted are very slim. Now maybe that doesn't mean people are more noble and honorable but I think that coexisting peacefully is both noble and honorable.
