Hey guys, I am thinking of having another one of my Willie Hoppe Titalist 2 piece cues converted. Mike Webb, who did my last, is doing not going to do any more, and i am thinking of finding another cue maker. Any suggestions and any idea on what they charge??????????.....your insight will be greatly appreciated.......mike

I gotta tell you and everyone who will listen that Joe Callaluca (JoeC on AZB) does one heck of a job on his cues. He has almost finished my Hoppe conversion and it looks great, to me. He converted my playing cue, and I have picked up a few more cues from him in the past. All were great, IMHO. Guycrunch had a conversion done by him, and he recently had a real nice cue sold here on AZB and posted one with some great wood in it on the Gallery. I won't discuss price/cost, that is his business, but it is very competitive. Contact him by PMing JoeC on here or at callaluca@aol.com

OK, here are some "in the process" pics..ivory butt, ivory joint, etc, etc...

I need to know too. I am thinking of doing this to mine. Mike Webb was recommended to me as well. Too bad he won't do them. Capone is also on my list. His cues are excellent, I imagine a conversion would be.

actually, it all depends on the cash your willing to put in it.
for cheap?, jerry rauenzahn.....awesome maker....easy to work with.

for bigger money, and a longer wait?
zylr makes a badass one.
scruggs.

good luck in your choice.

As those who know me know, I would go with Jerry Rauenzahn - he does a very classic conversion, with emphasis on playability. He did a great job of taking my design and creating something even better - very good eye for what works visually. Two cues on left are Rauenzahn Titlist conversions - far left is a Hoppe 2-piece conversion, next one is an early 1940's Titlist 1-piece conversion: http://oldsplice.homestead.com/index.html

Probably can't go wrong with Jerry R for a plain jane without fancy inlays. You can even get into the ivory joint and buttcap very reasonably with him. Plus his turn time is usually quite fast. If you do a search on her for posts by BushkaBob, you can see some of his recent Titlist work.

I saw one of the prettiest Titlist conversions I have ever seen converted by wes hunter. On another note I would go with Judd if you don't want to keep it a full splice, and have the points pretty high. I'm pretty sure he'd do that anyway since he likes his points high. Jim Buss would also be another good one. There is one on his site of previous cues...... www.jimbuss.com

Than there is always Pat diveney. I think he would make it look awesome but I haven't seen one from him so it might be worth the try.

Good point about 'full splice' - Jerry and most others will add a handle-wood piece, so the cue is no longer full-splice. It is almost impossible to convert a 2-piece Hoppe to retain the full-splice, simply because the cue is already a 'converted' from a Titlist 1-piece blank and there is less wood to work with. You are best off finding a good 1-piece, and they are cheaper anyway. I have a 1-piece conversion that is full-splice - local cuesmith added 1/2 inch black delrin to the end, cut a little high for the joint, no wrap in order to display the full splice (plus, it's a '30's Balke Collender and has longer points than a Titlist).

If you manage to keep either type 'full-splice', and want a wrap, you don't get to see a lot of the points anyway.

Paul Rubino.

He's the authority on working with older cues, restoring them, converting them, etc.

Other suggestion would be James White.

Cue is currently my playing cue and is not for sale. It is by far the most balanced cue I have ever had in my hands. It really feels like an extension of your body. It isn't quite as sweet as JP's cue but at less than half the the price i can live with it. For anyone wondering the handle was cut for the ring to be added so it is no longer a full splice for all you purists out there.

Hoppe Conversion

Lenoxmjs; Your cue is fantastic looking, Ebony Points are rare. It is very classic in appearance. I just wanted to do an "ALL OUT" cue, it is not fair for anyone to compare/they are two different animals. Speaking of animals, How's my favorite dog doing? Take Care JP

Hey Jp didn't know if you'd remember me or not. I sold that scruggs that I got from you and have regretted it ever since. I'm surprised that you would sell the titlist after being in your family so long. Good luck with your sale.
