If they're sold out of the "DCC discounted rooms" someone will probably take this.

I called a few weeks ago and they said they indeed had no rooms, then proceeded to try and con me into the "you've been specifically chosen for they're credit card" lol...yeah what a deal coming from a place that's a ghost town 51 weeks out of the year and on the verge of bankruptcy. Since this will probably get a good amount of views here's a little info that some probably don't know. You can go to that god forsaken place that's literally in the middle of nowhere any time during the year and stay for less than the so called discounted rate for the DCC, and if your a casino junky even more so less. The proof is in the pudding, the DCC is not the pool meca it once was and for those that missed the old days at the Executive West it's a shame you can't compare it to the carnival act it's become today. It is what it is and to say that is the only way to keep it alive is pretty sad.

$250 rooms and $30 meals at a place that has a license to steal, that's how you help the pool players out....yeah I'll tell'em

I totally agree the DDC at the Executive West Hotel was a blast. I was there for the final 6 years. I did go to the Horseshoe Casino 1 time and I was done. I haven't been back since. Too Bad it was a fun 9 days at the E.W. Hotel

I just got an email yesterday, the hotel/casino is demanding we pay up front for the room the minute we check in. That's sure sounds fishy to me. I have be going for years and this is something new. I do miss the Ex West.

They want the full amount up front which is non-refundable because if you leave early they will farm the room out to someone else but for the increased rate which was $289 a night last year. The entire thing is a complete con and theyre pumping up as much as possible because its days are numbered. When I was there last year I called the hotel on the way back from getting something to eat which was about 2:00 am and they said they had one smoking room with one bed and would be so kind as to let me have it for $289, thats after I gave them mine and my friends players card numbers. That was also the price until 10:00 am checkout time, so basically $36 an hour :rotflmao1:

I got the email too but the way I read it, though you are required to pay for all nights up front, only the first night is non-refundable.

Does someone have additional intel about subsequent nights being non-refundable? Or maybe they're talking about those that got the nine day discounted package? That would be more reasonable -- if you signed up for nine days and are getting a lower daily rate, they probably don't want you skipping out after just four or five days at the lower rate.

"Please be advised that Horseshoe Southern Indiana has recently made changes to the deposit policy for all hotel reservations. For the Derby City Classic group, a deposit should have been paid at time the reservation was booked. This deposit is non-refundable and cancellation of the reservation will forfeit the deposit. Payment for remaining nights must be paid in FULL upon check-in by credit card or cash. If paying by credit card, the cardholder must be present with picture ID. Guests must be 21 to rent room. Maximum occupancy per room is 4 guests and NO rollaway beds or extra bed linens will be provided. Room type preferences are a request only and are not guaranteed. Smoking in a non-smoking room will result in a $250 cleaning fee. All guests in SMOKING rooms must be 18 years or older per Indiana state law."

It makes no difference to them when people leave and im sure they love it when folks do skip out early, because they will sell the rooms per night at the highly increased rate. The only lower rate you are getting by using the DCC code is not having to pay their increased price during the DCC, you are not getting a discount on the rooms. You can stay there any other 51 weeks out of the year for less than you are paying at their so called discounted rate. In a nut shell, they're jacking the prices of the rooms for an event that is keeping them afloat, literally. This was never an issue at the Executive and common sense would dictate that a place that looks like something out of an episode of The Walking Dead 90% of the year wouldn't have their hand out every time you turn around.

You missed my point.

I know they are happy to rebook the room if you leave early. However, if you got the room at $99 a night with the proviso that you stay nine nights, while everyone else is playing $149 for single nights, there's a problem.

I am also aware that rooms at this property usually go for much less, like $59 a night. But jacking up prices when there is greater demand is the way the hotel industry works. Try getting a Times Square room on New Years Eve, on the Hudson for the Fourth of July, or even a room anywhere in the greater Louisville are during Kentucky Derby week. It is the way of the world.
