wondering how many people would post the number of hours they practice/play per week over how many years and their best run?

for me it's 3 hours per week for 3 years and 30.

and the 3 years are in 2 stints of 1.5 years, separated by 40 years...

Bob,

Like you, I had a significant time away from the game, and just started up again about 3-4 years ago. I've been focusing on 14.1 exclusively since about 2008, average about 15 hours per week, and my best run is 63. Although I also have a 61 and numerous 50+ runs, there just seems to be a wall around 50-something/60 that I just can't get past.

Not Enough

Learned the game and played it from 13 till about 16, then everything went to 9-ball back in the early 1980's. Started playing straight again, and now exclusively, back in 2009. Since 2009 my weekly amount of time at the table has varied from 6-8 hours/week up to about 40 hours/week last summer. My ball count has a very close correlation with how many hours I put into the game each week. Hit my high of 80 last summer along with several in the 70's and many 50's and 60's while I was playing a ton of pool (nearly every day). Putting 10-15 hours in now and I'll eek out a run in the 40's most days. I've given in to the fact that I have to be a slave to the game to post high numbers.

congrats on the 70+!

must have been a good night all around, last night -- i didn't break my high run, but i had two 29's, just one off my high run, and very encouraging that i did it twice in one night, shows some consistency.

and one of them was right out of the gate, as soon as i got on the table. maybe there Is more going on mentally for me than i thought. i just racked 'em, and decided not to count shots, but to make every shot count. so i think my focus was much higher.

Thanks, Bob. I think it's definitely mental, and hopefully I broke that wall down last night. It sounds like you're in the same boat. From what I've read of your posts, pocketing balls isn't the problem, but rather managing the rack, recognizing patterns, and falling on a break shot to get into the next rack. If it's any help, I tried keying on something Danny D was talking about during his commentary of the World Championship videos. He was stressing to not disturb any balls that already go somewhere. He said that if a ball goes somewhere, get to it. He said if you can do that, then it's just a matter of taking the balls off the table and falling on the break shot. It sure seemed to help me.

Also, I just purchased a Predator 314-2 about 2 weeks ago, and I'm still getting used to it, but I think low-deflection is the way to go for maximum feel and control. I'm definitely starting to feel confident shooting with it and my cue ball control seems better and I think it's only going to continue to get better as I get fully adjusted to it.

Don't Touch Your Balls!!!

Interesting point about DD's advice of not running into balls if they all have a pocket to go to. Rempe also stresses this in several videos including his 2000 US Open match with Ginky and his How To Run 100 Balls DVD.

Congrats on the new high. Looks like I'm going to have to start hitting balls more. We both have highs of 71 for the year.

Congrats lance.... I have to get back to the table as soon as my back allows me too !!!!

I feel I havent been playing enough Yo be able to contribute to this post and have an accurate gauge on progress. Lately I can't hit the broadside of a barn.

In the past when I was able to play just about everyday I was hitting regular runs in the 60s 70s and 80s with regularity. Within a 4 hour okay session. In a good day it was happening more than once.

I would love to get back to that point, hopefully soon enough I can make it happen !!!!

For now I have to settle with being an armchair quaterback !!!!

Thanks, guys...

I was playing down Ashland last night and the tip fell off my Predator. :( And I played bad because I had to switch back to my "standard" shaft. And yes, what I feared IS true. Now that I'm getting a feel for the Predator, shooting with the old shaft seemed awkward. I know Predator uses a proprietary material in their ferrule and I'm using the fibre-backed Champion tip, so I think it was the glue I used that wasn't getting a good bond. I got the economy "super glue" that was $0.99 for 2 tubes - and I think it's garbage. Last night I bought a tube of actual "Krazy Glue" and I noticed immediately when I put the tip back on that the bond seemed stronger. So I should be back in business with the Predator. :)

And on another note, I got to meet Allison Fisher at Ashland last night. She was there shooting footage for a video (how she ever ended up at Ashland for this, I don't know ), but I got a picture with her and an autograph. She was very pleasant and won a new fan.

playing for 5 yrs, started 14.1 in Jan. Play 8-10 hr a week have run 93, I try to get over 42 everyday. Great game!

i'm playing about 5 hours per week right now and typically fit in a 30 ball run somewhere in there. not near where i want to be but not going to get those numbers up unless i can get in more hours. doh!
