I know everyone is different, and prices will vary. But can someone tell me what approximately a House Pro charges. I have a couple really nice rent houses, so that would be one of the perks of the job. I would be willing to fund thier way to major tournaments would be another perk. Just a general idea on how much is the going rate for a house pro is...if anyone knows. PM is fine if you do not want to disclose this publicly.

Thanks in advance guys

What type of hours are you expecting out of this house pro? If you are looking for a full time staffer then what was offered may not be enough. Just a one or two night a week pro your offer may be too much. All depends on skill/time/name recognition/etc. Very hard to put a ball park number on it.

I agree, its hard to put a number on it. Seriously, this is just a thought at this point, so I really dont know. Im thinking 3-4 nights a week, and that really just depends. It would definately be flexible though. I wouldnt want to just limit them to the pool hall and not being able to leave.

Really, just trying to get some sort of idea at this point. It may or may not be something we do, the money isnt really an issue, but I want it to be fair for both parties involved.

Just out of curiosity, are there a lot of Pool Halls that have actual have house Pro's like your country club golf courses have? Most Country Club golf Pro's are PGA card holders, but do not have an actual PGA card to play on the pro tour so I dont want anyone to think that I am actually talking about the Players on the actual pro golf tour.

Also, what would be the responsibilities of a House Pro at a pool hall be? I understand that it will vary within each pool hall, but in general, what would they be?

John Schmidt posted a while back looking for a place outside FL to be a house pro. Maybe check with him & see what he'd want.

I know Magoos up the road has Gabe Owen as the house pro, Buddy Hall was the house pro before him. Its the big name that people are looking for and what attracts them I suppose. Also, it will bring in road players I am assuming.

For me, I think the responsibilities would be to be there for action, to teach lessons, and be there for big tournaments. Also, and I am gonna be greedy, it would be for me to get better at pool

But, that would all be up to the pro and whatever we could agree on.

Hey, ft. Will you be having a grand opening at your new place? I wouldn't mind coming down, signing a few autographs, playing a little One Pocket, pigging-out at a buffet somewhere. Let everyone know, okay? :)

It seems to me that it would not be all that expensive if you got an older person, perhaps retired who is still actively interested in the game and likes to teach / coach others.

Professionals (in other professions) whom I know are often willing to "work" for much less than their pre-retirement fees. Some work for nothing just to keep their hand in. I would think there might be some "older" excellent pool players who might be interested if you let it be known.

Free table time, holding a class now and then or a few hours of one on one coaching would supplement a retirement income.

Us old retired guys got to stick togehter ya know.

Hi Joe.......anything at this point is a possibility. Want to get into the place for at least a month and take care of some issues I have with the place first, get all the tables rearranged and all the GC tables fixed up at 100%.

I have a 3 yr old metal home that is 1650 sq ft that is on Ft Gibson lake that I will let the house pro stay in. I think with having a well known player, be him young or older, they will bring in much more business.

Tramp Steamer, yes I will have a grand opening, I was about to get in contact with you to see what your fee is to be on hand to sign autographs, photos, t shirts, and to sign your bobble heads.......hit me up when you come up with a price

ftgokie,

I really wasnt thinking about what you were your expectations of the responsibilities of house pro would be, because that is your business decision. I worded my question wrong so sorry about if it seemed like I was getting involved in your business decisions.

I was more trying to find out what other pool halls do because I had three golf club pros as friends and there jobs are very different between the three of them.

One is just responsible for giving lessons and setting up and running tournaments and just keeping up relations with members. While the other one is responsible for the management of the club house employee's, lessons, tournaments, and member relations. The last one runs just the pro shop portion of the club and also does lesson, members relations, and tournaments.

So if I could ask the question in a different way, if someone knows a pool hall that has a house pro, what is there actual job? Do the redo table, run the business, manage the personnel, so on?

Thank You.

I know this one House Pro that gets $300.00 aweek to show up on tournament nights and show a few shots/trick shots, and give lessons a few hours twice aweek.

I know some other House Pro's that are not as well known that just show up on tournament nights and show a few shots/trick shots and get table time & a few comp. drinks.

Its all according to how well know the player is that your seeking employment

I know at Q-Master's in Va. Barry has Dave Bollman, He doesn't teach, but he has a Pro Shop, and is usually in action there. He can be found there usually every day. I think Barry lets him use the place free of charge, Dave keeps all the revenue from making cues and repairs. Good arrangement. A nice Pro Shop is a neccessity. Also Free food and Drinks as a perk. Dave does pretty good there and it's nice to have a knowladgable person working on your valuable cues. Dave also has a lot of Knowladge if you can pry it out of him:)
