After years of thinking about doing this I am finally pulling the trigger. On June 1 I hope to launch the Houston Billiards Ladder. I am going to have 14.1, one pocket, 8 ball and 10 ball divisions. The first session will be a complete free roll. There will be no handicap system. If money enters in to it later it will be for prizes only I am not going to do cash prizes. I plan on running the whole thing through Facebook. Players will report their stats to facebook and I will post cumulative statistical updates as I have time to. I have decided to use Elo Rater to keep track of the matches. Elo rater is an application used to rank chess players and run chess tournaments. The pool world could greatly improve itself by using an Elo rating system. It will take all the guess work out of how the ladder will be administered.
 
The races in the ladder will be as follows:
8 ball - race to 7
10 ball - race to 7
1 hole - race to 3
14.1 - race to 100 points

It is possible for 2 players to play in multiple divisions in one meeting. The beauty of a ladder is you compete where you want to when you want to. Using an ELO system is a proven means of accurately rating a group of players.

If this goes well and I can generate some interest I could add snooker, 3c and any other discipline that I can get enough players to sustain a ladder.

If you are from Houston and would like to participate please like the page and post which divisions you would like to play in. I am going to go to Fast Eddies one day next week to try to drum up players. I have enough interest to launch earlier than I had hoped.
