How Are The Bars and Coin-Ops Doing?

Maybe they should start wondering if your friend is doing well because there's NO SMOKING.

It goes both ways, doesn't it? People will usually decry that whatever was the norm, for them, is how it should be.

Gambling and smoking are two things some pool players associate with the game, and therefore, if those aren't present then it must be the cause for a reduction in play.

For some, they don't want to smoke or gamble, and therefore for some areas, the fact those aren't present has made the game more enjoyable. For others, of course, the opposite holds true.

In terms of smoking, many establishments caught on quickly that some type of protected outdoor area handles that issue. There's really nothing them or the patrons are going to do about it, and most patrons aren't going to simply move to another location just to smoke in public. It's an issue where everybody grumbles a bit, but makes do with what they have.

all the bars in myarea are doing well excepy the one i frequent the most. fridays have been real slow there but saturdays are as usual.

a new one just opened down the road last week and i was in it last friday , sat and tonight. it was packed fri and sat and doing real good for a wed night. has 7 tables and all of them were busy fri and sat, tonight about half of them were being played on.

will be interesting to see how it does after the newness wears off.

its the only bar i know of in town that doesnt have live music that has a cover charge and like i said they are packed . i cant believe it.

My good friend owns two very successful Bars in San Francisco, one on Potrero Hill and one in the Haight Ashbury. Both have (3) 4'x6' Coin Tables @ $1.50 per game. He told me recently that he makes around $500.00 per table per week (and he owns all the tables.) He also sells one-hella-vu-lotta-booze at both joints.

That said, I would say Coin-op Tables are doing GREAT in San Francisco.

Wow, no way in hell im paying $1.50 on a bar box per game. Much rather do a pool hall and pay per hour, you get way more games for the money.

$1.50 per game is what I pay currently. But the flip side is that I want good equipment, to wit..a good fast cloth (no nappy assed cheap cloth), rails that play true, a good set of balls in good condition, and a good ball rack.

If you win you hold on to the table. So if you win one after another,then it's not costing you anything.

BTW, the bar I frequent, and play out of, makes a nice chunk of change every week off the bar tables. Of course, they split a portion of it with the amusement company. But everyone seems happy including the customers.

I know a fellow who recently took a job in Texas working on
a Natural Gas Pipeline. All he does is "check" a Valve three times
during his 8 hr. shift and he is making $780.00 per day.

Lord knows I wish I was young enough to go back to work
and make some of that EASY money.

NO SMOKING in bars in San Francisco. Some people here just can't figure out how it's possible that your friend hasn't gone out of business with NO SMOKING. Maybe they should start wondering if your friend is doing well because there's NO SMOKING.

Smoking is not a problem with either Bar. They both have
outside covered Patio's for the Smokers and there aren't
that many customers who smoke.

You gotta remember, SF is located in
"The People's Republic of Kalifornia"

Bars

I think they are down some, don't really know since I quit going to bars almost 20 years ago. They have to do outside to smoke now (although my Pool room had half [back room] declared a cigar bar and we can smoke in the back room now).

Also, DUI's are up, and they are not fun. My brother is an attorney, and he tells me that if someone with a DUI gets an attorney, with fines, etc., it will end up running them about $2,300 dollars. (I quit drinking alcohol about 20 years ago).
