Good deal. So after all did you and the boy play for 20 or 100 or 20 a set ?

He sounds like he has a good sense of humor.

Master league is fun.

Yea he has a good sense of.humor. He always has a smile on his face and laughs and jokes with everyone. I guess his woofing at me is his way of joking around with me.

Last night on his way out the door after league hw called out to me and said...i love you dad..i was taken aback at first and then I said ...i love you too son.

No we did not play for anything ....i just could not take the kids money.

Like I said...i got him to join my Monday team also.. Tonight he had his game face on and beat a decent 6. He also had a break and run.. His first one. I told him i was proud of him . After I lost my match to a 4 he starts raggin me about his win and my loss.

I reminded him of shutting him out in those 3 sets. He replied ...you dont want none of me in 9 ball. I said
..really? .need I remind you i beat you worse in 9 ball than I did in 8 or 10 ? he says yea but it wont happen next time. I again said ..really ?

I took out my wallet as I told him. I told you when we played I did not want your money I just wanted to prove to you that you could not beat me.

I said lets play one rack of 9 ball for 60.00 as that's all I had on me..he said he sis nor have 60.00. I said that's ok you can pay mw.this weekend but of you win you can walk out of here with 60.00 he said he did not want to play just one rack.

I told him....son the difference between.amd you is you think you van beat me but I know I can beat you and I got 60.00.in my hand a s telling you I will.give you the break and you can rack your own with 9 on the break in amy pocket counting but when its all.said.amd done I will be the one pocketing the 9 ball..

He then asks the captain who.is an 8 what he thought. The captain tells him he would not take that bet against me himself.

The boy declines the bet and then asks me if I want to.go out to dinner and a movie with him.and his girlfriend tomorrow night. I told him I would love to but needed to take a rain check as I am.playing on the tap league that starts up tomorrow night.

He says ok and as he is walking out he says ...see you at Thursday night league dad.

I don't know what to make of this kid.

Yep he does.
Have a good time.
Maybe you will get to keep him on your team a while.

The sooner you admit he can beat you, the less fun it will be for him. Haha.

Shot really well tonight, won my 8 ball match 4-1, had a R&R and missed 0 shots last 2 games, made some shots that were insane...nine ball I won 4-0 for a rackless and started that match with a break and run.

Team pretty much guaranteed to win nine ball, with one week to play we have to win 1 match to seal the deal, in 8 ball I think we will be battling it out for second, but we will make some good cash off of this session and will make titleholders for both 8 and nine ball...great session!!!

Last night was the start of my first week without league since early September. VNEA on Tuesdays ran all the way through the early part of April, and APA Masters just finished up last week. I could have played Summer VNEA 3 man, but I decided I needed a break. For me it just seems traditional to take the Summer off, and it will give me some extra time to devote to practice.

Well I did.appease his ego some what by telling him it would be tough to beat him in a handicapped 9 ball match..

His eyes lit up when I told him that he was a borderline.6 on 9 ball..he asked me how I knew that. I replied that in apa it dont matter if you beat the best player in town or the worst.all they take into consideration is that you scored xxx points in xxx in ings and that he won 10 out of 12 matches last session and.had a. 83% win record with 4 big wins of 15-5 or more points. He said wow...you lee up with all that ?

I replied yea all that and more.. I asked him of he realized he lost every 9 ball match this session ? He said yea and I can't understand why. I told him not to take it the wrong way but I quit matching him up with easy wins and.was matching him.up with better players that I usually play

I told him that if he could not beat them as a 5 he.damg sure could not neat them as a 6
. He said he told his girlfriend the other day that I was real smart about pool but he did not realize I was that smart.

I told him to keep practicing and he will get there.

A while back I posted that it was rumored tap was coming to our area. Well it officially started tonight..

As I suspected several apa players joined tap as I did. I saw quite a few new faces also.

And as some one mentioned in a thread a while back....tap handicaps are lower than apa. I am a 5/6 in apa. They started me as a 4/4. I know some of you guys are going fo be surprised at what I am about to say....being I have somewhat of a reputation of defending apa on this forum.....I love the cal your pocket format in 8 ball. I was surprised though that you had to mark your pocket on the 8 like you do in apa.

So how did I do ?

I played a new girl in 8 ball and it was a 3-1 race and I lost 2-1. One of those matches where she left nothing when she missed.

Oh yea this is double tap so we play 9 ball also.

I played another apa 6 who they also have ranked as a 4 and I won 3-1 in a 3-3 race.

I guess time will have a way of sorting handicaps out but a couple of apa players handicaps are questionable to me. An apa 6/7 I know is ranked a 4/4 like me ? I dont think so..

I think I'm really gonna enjoy this.

Glad u got your first taste of tap and didnt hate it. After playing your first 4-5 weeks your stats will sort out your handicaps. Highest in TAP is a 7, not familiar with apa, but I find all of the 6's and 7's in my Tap league...truly should be.

I am surprised that you played anyone that would only have to win one match, the rules are different in North Texas, a 2 is the lowest ranking and they have to win 2 games but can have unlimited coaching, only when you play a 2 you have to play to your full handicap...a 4 would have to win 4 unlike any other matchup where everyone plays to one less than their handicap.

Also surprised that in 9 ball you only played to 3 if you are a 4, our league you play to full handicap in 9 ball.

I thought the marking the pocket thing was kinda silly, but where we play we just call it, but they are pretty adamant about it at titleholders...will find out in August I suppose.

I wish you luck, you will find after several weeks the handicaps really start to firm up and are pretty accurate.

Honestly the only thing I absolutely hate about tap is the new app...having to have continuous internet connectivity is a real pain in the arse, even in Dallas area we have had issues with it

OMG...broke a 14 game losing streak last night and had to come from waaaaaay behind, with my opponent needing only one ball. So I won 46-37. Whew.

My first match of this new season. Played another top player. We ended up playing 9-ball,race to 9.

I'm playing pretty strong and am up 8-1 when I totally dog the case 9-ball. He wins the next four to get to 8-6 but I leak across the finish line 9-6. Ugh. What should have been a happy, blowout win ended up as a complete shit show, lucking my way into a win.

On to the next.
How you likin' league, Freddy?

There wasn't much of a chance I was going to hate it. Since I practically grew up playing in bars this apa player prefers call your pocket.

I have defended apa on this site many times but I have never hated on another league. We are all kindred brothers in this game called pool..no matter what league you play in the ultimate goal is to shoot balls in pockets and hopefully put the money ball in before your opponent..

Maybe my lo....who.is new to tap ....who btw is an apa 7/9 thought the races were set up like apa. I dunno....just guessing. As with anything new there will be glitches ....such as this to work out.

On the upside of shorter races.....we got out of there way earlier than I ever have before. We started at 7:00....or shall I say we were supposed to. Every one had to fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee before we started and them he gave a little speech and of course several had questions. Really dont know what time we actually got started but we were through by 9:40. A couple teams were still playing when I left

On the down side of shorter races anything cam happen when some one only needs to win one rack. In apa it would have been a 5/2 race.

We started our new session last week. My 9 ball team won 68 to 32. Pretty good start to the session. We won all our matches pretty big except for one.

I'm enjoying the camaraderie, and I'm enjoying the feel of competition again. And I'm doing this particular league's season (No Limit League in San Diego County - sponsored by Pacifico Beer!) because it's a "race to" league, and it's handicapped like chess matches (Fargo does this, too). We also get to play 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball

Plus they offer up league-based tournaments using the same handicap with a race. And I like the tournament offering for sure.

I might be lucky if I play 4 matches of APA 9-ball this session. My team made it to whatever next level is (Vegas I guess), but I only played the two matches, so by rules, I can't even coach them. Oh well. It's still fun.

My Thursday team won 9 ball tri cups yesterday. It was a long day...9:30 am Sunday morning to 12:30 pm that night. I am sure glad that our team was seeded at the top due to pints earned last session and we did not have to play Saturday also.

Just so I dont make this post any more long winded than it will be I am just gonna say our team did not play their best the first round and we lost.

In the 2nd round we faced the team I play for on Monday nights and thus could not play for either team. Being captain of my Thursday team I wanted them to win and went over with my co captain on how to match up as he did not know anyone on my Monday team and I could not be involved in any way with either team once the match started.

I told him if he won the toss to throw first and who to throw. Well him and the red of the team decided to do the opposite and let the other team throw first even though he won the toss . Bad mismatch as a result when they threw a damn lucky 2 and he threw our 4. Our 4 lost. He now decides to throw the 5 I told him to throw the first match. Monday team decides to jump on him with their 6 and its another loss for my team.

Surprisingly Monday team decides to be conservative in the 3rd match and throw a 4 and Thursday team throws a 4 and wins. 4 th match I am getting nervous as Thursday team throws our best 5 and Monday counters with a 3. Thursday wins again and the score is pretty close.

Last match here comes their 8 and Thursday throws our second best 5. Sure enough it starts out bad. End of the 1st rack the 8 is up 10-0. Our 5 has the game of his life and wins 38-60....btw ... He lost to a 2 n the first round. So we make it to the finals

Now here is where it get interesting. My 3 works part time at the pool hall we are playing at and worked the whole weekend during tri cups but allowed her to take time off during our matches. She comes up to me right before the finals and says he wont let her off to play. Wtf ? Damn near 40 teams all weekend and he lets her off and we are in the final round will th 8 teams left and she cant get off?

Light bulb goes off.! The room owner plays on the team we are facing in the finals. If my 3 cant play then I....the highest ranked player on the team cant play. Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why she suddenly couldn't get off when there is hardly a crowd there.

I can't play but I can dang sure do the matching up and coaching. So I threw 5...5..5..4...4 against 6...6....4...4..3. We whupped up on them to where it got to the last match my 5 only needed 18 points against there last 4 who had to go to 31. Their 4 had to win 18-2 for their team to win. What made the win even sweeter was the last match was against the room owner . It would have been a darn near impossible feat for him to win for their team

Oh yea....that monday team I play on ? I happened to get my best Thursday 5 added on the Monday team last week . Tonight the Monday captain...the 8 wants me to get my 2nd best Thursday 5...the one who beat him yesterday to join the Monday team also. Guess he is coming around to my way of thinking . Damn good 5's are hard to beat.

My APA 9-ball league team won whatever playoff match this weekend (they call it The Blast tournament in APA San Diego). Even though I'm not eligible to play, I guess they allowed me to coach. I hate coaching. I'd rather watch and drink.

We got trophy plaques with our names engraved for being such cool people. I'm surprised it wasn't a plastic trophy. I will cherish it forever. After all, I played all of two times and was a great cheerleader!

I played my No Limit league last night. I won the lag, and I chose 9-ball. This was on a crappy bar table with beige cloth setup in the smoking patio, so the floor by code is slanted. Good news is that it's fairly level. Bad news is that the patrons don't want to move if they're in the way.

I gave my opponent 9-7, and I went into demolish zone and got him 9-1. I failed to make a ball on the break on game 8, and the 2-9 paired up. Ugh... no shutout, but it was a strong win from the lag to the last ball. I dogged one ball early, but I lucked out that it didn't cost me.

On to the next

Finished out out session this week, i beat a 5 in 8 ball 4-2 and lost to a three in 9 bal 1-3...anyway finished 1st in 9 ball...this was no surprise, we wrapped that up last week, also finished 3rd in 8 ball, we had a chance to take it all, but both teams in front of us went 5-0 and we went out 4-1. The team was fantastic for the entire 22 week seeion, we didnt get skunked one time and I am very excited about our chances at titleholders...cant wait...still end of July before those tournaments get started.

I just got back from my 2nd week of tap league. I must say I am digging this league so far for several reasons.

1. I am not the captain. I am captain of 3 apa teams and I honestly think the headaches of being a captain ...scorekeeping....coaching....putting pressure on myself to carry these teams....being the best player on them affects my level of play.

2. Shorter races. It means we get outa there waayyy earlier than we do in apa.

3. Call pocket 8 ball. I really do like apa and have no intention of quiting. However ...being a bar rules player most of my life I really prefer call shot... Or in this case...call pocket

So how did I do tonight ? I played an apa 7/8 in 9 ball. It's a 5-3 race and I won 3-2 .

I did not play 8 ball tonight. One of his wins was a 9 on the break. I don't think the match went 7 innings. He missed an early 9 combo and so did I. We both played a safe apiece. Other than that it was basically a run out match each rack. It's the best I have played in a long time.

Yeah that has to take a toll. I was a captain for 1 summer session and my god did I hate it. Granted it was harder because it was Summer, but getting people to show up, making handicap, keeping score...ugh. It was for the birds. Maybe my team was just a PITA, but I wasn't eager to do it again that's for sure.

What you said and more. Double the problems when you are playing double jeapordy..

8 and 9 ball at the same time.

People not showing up....showing up late....leaving early and forgetting to pay...r plain just dont have the money. I had 2 I had to get rid of over never having the fees. Plus no one wants to help lee score and some who refuse to learn out to keep score properly and some who never get it right and cant add worth a darn.

It's hard to focus when you play because you have your mind on all that other crap.

My tap captain is lucky. His wife keeps score and she don't even play.

Oh man this is so true. Our first problem was that we were the first under handicapped team in APA history. I had a 5/6 who really plays like 4, a 4/5 who couldn't use any draw or follow, etc Bottom line I needed our 2 to show up every week to make handicap, and many times she would say she wouldn't have the money or was just doing something else. Drove me nuts. Oh yeah and the people that refused to keep score or wouldn't learn. We had those too.

We made it for Sunday Tier 1 Eight Ball and Thursday we made the Wild Card for 8 ball and 9 ball. Tomorrow we play playoffs for Thurs league.

At the moment actually playing, I've been doing so bad. I'm in a major slump and its been getting harder to get out of my own head. Im not playing with any type of confidence. Missing routine shots and ball in hand. Ive been trying to practice thru it but its not helping. I feel that im getting lazy in practice and its transfering over to my game.

I'm hopefully taking the summer off and reevaluating where im at in the fall
