how are ya'll doing in league ?

Tonight was our second night of VNEA pool league a new experience for me so far I've won 4 of my 6 games tonight's only loss was when I let the cue ball run a bit more than I normally would've and knocked in the 8 ball while I still had 2 balls on the tablet .

Which the team captain said I've got 55 points now whatever that means .

Seniors pool league starts this Friday and then the town league later this month ?

Had a good week league wise.

Tuesday APA 8-ball won 4-0 when the other team threw off on me with an SL-3. This is a traveling league and the other team’s home table is an abused Valley bar box that’s tucked in a tight spot (from the right hand side of the table you shoot with your back foot on a step to the stage). They beat us last time in their place as we had trouble adjusting to a table that was THAT bad, but they had a tough time adjusting to our home tables this week (Diamond bar boxes in good shape).

Wednesday Double Jeopardy won 8-ball against an SL-6 4-1. However the final rack he conceded when he really shouldn’t have. At the end of a 5 ball run I was left with a 6-ft shot on the 8 (3-ft between the cue ball and the 8, and then another 3 feet to the pocket), shot would have a 10 degree back cut or so. I’m favored to make it …. But it’s not a gimme for me.

Won a handicap assisted win against that same SL-6, winning 38-40.

Won 2 out of 3 racks in my bar league on Thursday, only losing when my opponent made the 8 on the break.

Odds of me staying an SL-5 in 8-ball by the end of this session are seemingly slim. Across 2 APA 8-ball divisions I have 13 wins and 5 losses, with 4 rackless wins and 3 other 4-0 wins where I didn’t win the coin flip. All but 1 of my losses was hill-hill. In one division I’m 1st in the MVP race and in the other I’m 2nd.

Still trying to jump over to USAPL but so far no luck.

Good shooting!

As for getting bumped up, maybe you will, maybe you won't. Depends on a whole lot of factors, despite what anybody thinks they know ;)

The more games you have in the system, the less chance you have going up. Who you played matters. (Or how good they are, more accurately) Number of innings. Etc, etc, etc.

I went 9-2 last session in 8-ball. Wasn't even a blip on the radar. I have close to 500 games in. I'd have to do that for a few more sessions. Or start having lots of break and runs, etc. Conversley, I've been horrible in 9-ball for a few sessions in a row. 1-6, 2-7, etc. Still haven't gone backwards, Skill Level wise. Once you have a lot of games in the system, it takes a lot to move up, or down.

Still, good on you for a great session. Keep it up! Me, after a good session, I'm back to playing horribly again. Sigh

Did end up getting bumped up to SL-6 in 8-ball. Won my first match as an SL-6 last night 5-1 (opponent was a low-end SL-5). The team captain got bumped to an SL-5 last week so team wise we lost a lot of flexibility, but still we’re 7/6/5/4/4/3/3/3 so I don’t get the panic.

The APA drama started to kick in when our SL-7 suggested I try to dump myself back to a 5. I declined, and just suggested that they put me up against people that can beat me (trust me, they’re out there). The captain has the habit of throwing me up vs. shaky over ranked opponents for the easy win.

It looks like I might have a USAPL team for double jeopardy to replace my bar league - so that’s a plus.

I stumbled my way onto a TAP team last week. Last night were my first two matches (8 and 9 ball). They started me as a SL6 in 9 ball. I played a really good SL6 player and lost 6-4. Then in 8 ball I started as a SL5 and played what I consider to be a really good SL3 and won 4-1. TAP handicaps are definitely different than APA.

Was a really fun night. Looking forward to getting back into league play.

I'm still losing at a high rate, both 8-ball and 9-ball. At least tonight I had a competitive match, and it was fun, despite losing. My opponent was a gentleman, as well.

One thing served as a highlight. I actually pulled off what we call a Rack And Run tonight. That's where your opponent breaks dry, then you come up and run the table. (in 8-ball) First time I've ever done that in competition, probably only the second time I've ever done it. That was pretty cool, if nothing else tonight.

I lost in 8 and 9 ball last night. Pretty badly, at that. I just could not figure out how to make a ball.

With the lone exception of one 8 ball game where I did the exact same thing as you...but that was really it for my night.

Last night's league game went poorly for me even if against the team we were playing I've beat them all the pool God's didn't smile down at me but I did manage a single win out of 3 games played .
The city / town league doesn't start yet but seniors league will be on Friday afternoon something to look forward to !

I've had an awful session so far, not having won a match in either 8 or 9 ball. 8 or 9 matches. Worst period of pool that I can remember having. No surprise, I was pretty down.

Last weekend I had an unexpected Friday night off, so I decided I'd go play in the weekly tournament at the local pool hall, just to get some table time in. They run what they call a "card style" tourney, meaning they use pairs of cards randomly drawn to determine who you're playing. One game. Each player is given a number of losses they can have before being eliminated, based on skill level. So everyone gets to play a lot, and we're not there all night, trying to work thru a bracket and being there until after midnight.

I was simply interested in getting some games in, and working on my mechanics. Turns out due to a pretty favorable draw, I ended up taking second. Big confidence boost.

Played my league match last night and could feel the difference. I beat a stronger player than I, by a few points. I'd have been satisfied losing by a few, playing the way I was playing. A good feeling, kind of back on track. Hopefully it carries over next week.

Been up and down. I've played really poorly lately as I can't get out of my own head. I'm a 6 in my 8ball TAP league and somehow just a 4 in 9ball. I need to get some more practice time and just focus on my stroke and mental focus as I feel those are the two worst areas of my game right now.

Very up and down

One vnea night I go 5 n 0 against a strong team all 550 min and up
In a new environment kind of fet uncomfortable but eventually zoned in on the table and some good shooting

Next night bca 1-4 against a team with half the overal Fargo of the other night
Home base against players I know

Super strange

I'm doing fairly well even if I'm beating myself when I do loose a game they aren't beating me if that makes sense .
I'm learning to trust my cue I'm holding in my hand and let it do its job to impact the English to the object balls to make them drop into the desired pockets on the table the roll into position for my next shot .
My goal for league pool is if as a team we don't go to Las Vegas for nationals to do respectfully at state in VNEA 8 ball .

Played with my new Revo last night. First match was a bit of a struggle bus and ended up losing 2 down. Second match was better and won 3 up. I still wasn't totally comfortable over the ball but definitely coming around.

I really need to get some more good practice time.

Last night I played well even when my opponent played what he thought was a great safety .
What I need to work on is staying focused on the shot at hand staying down on the shot and watch it drop in the pocket .
With that said I'm still in the top group of players in this league .

I'm in the top 10 of players in all three local league's and my VNEA league team is still in first place in the upper division , individually we're all in the top 15 with 46 players if I remember correctly so yes thing's are going well in the Heart of Big Sky Country .

Annual playoffs for USAPL 9-ball are in 2 weeks. Several spots for Vegas are on the line. We won 2 of 3 sessions, and finished a bare second in the last session so we have the top seed and a bye past the preliminary qualifiers.

I'm sure we'll find some way to blow it out our collective asses... 😂

I still suck

;)

1 out of 8 in 8-ball
2 out of 8 in 9-ball

Pretty frustrating. Oh well, I have a chance tonight to right the ship, we shall see!
