I got pretty toasty and got 3rd in the Big Dogs 9 ball tournament (out of lol 15 players) this last Sunday. I most likely broke my record for scratches on the break or basically about 12-13 times in only 5 matches. I even changed spots from the left side, right side, middle etc...didn't matter. I am sure I popped up on all the breaks though so that is probably why most happened....was a good time for sure and nice to see I can compete even when feeling froggy.

League starts this Sunday where I get to play my minimum 4 times because I am a dumbass qualifying for 9 ball regionals as an 8 yuck. 2 and out here I come!

LOL

Our 9-ball city cup tournament starts Saturday at 8am and regionals start next weekend. The 8-ball co-captain asked me to play in the second chance 8-ball tournament with the pitiful 8-ball team we had. I "politely" declined

well - 8ball was tonight. off-site @ that pretty pink & purple cloth crappy tables Longshanks bar that wreaks of incense.

we had 4 of 5 players show for the team - one could play twice & foot the bill. i suggested we show ON TIME @ 7pm - and if THEIR team was late >10mins - FORFEIT (and get the hell out of there!).

we won 3 of 5. (cause we can't shoot 100% on neon colors)
and when we got home, WILSON had BANNED 3 AZBers....

We are mid season at the moment. My team won the top division comfortably and we were runners up in the cup.

In the middle of the singles knockouts at the moment. I am in the last 8 of that, to be played tomorrow night.

New season starts in a week or so.

Woohoo! First win in 9-ball. Beat a One 25-12 for a 12-8 match score. Close one. Took a while to get going, and the pressure was on with the handicap. Missed a few easy shots due to overconfidence.

I think we need a list of who has gotten banned, so we can all keep up with what we missed while out playing pool.

I also think I'm kidding

poorer !

Don't know how to feel about this one.
( Supposed to be) an APA dbl jeopardy league (in-house), but my cap't has a "bed-time" of 9 PM it seems. This team is whack ! I almost always wind up playing last b/c E-1 wants to get out by 10 PM. Team priorities,...... wish they were a bit more serious toward the game. Been like this since week 1,...........Cap't is a nice guy, albeit he is a bit flaky.
So since week 3 , we only play 8-ball since it takes too long to play both 8 & 9 ball. :(
This week is last week, and placed 3rd of 4 teams. It is what it is,......

Good thing is I get to play cheap on the side. So,I'm playing my friend in 9-ball race to 9 , and the set is tied 5-5 . Cap't walks up to me sez, "Since you two are already playing , mays well play 8-ball each other." So mid-set we start the 8-ball match,(mind you my friend has a ball on me any time -- his game is 9-ball.) We're both the same S/L (5, he was "new" , started assa 4 then he carefully nurtured his S/L up to only 5. I went through a month long funk and am stuck b/c of that.) I jumped out to 3-1, and for the next rack I couldn't get out so, I kept leaving him with hard English for the shot. Second time he scratched and i'm out, 4-1.

We go back to our match set , and he's a bit angry over his loss. He rips me 9-6 with a snap on the last rack. :(

So, I guess I won, but I lost ....

man that sounds like the 1st team i played for lol.

he always played his matches 1st and left the co captian to run the team while he went home. need less to say i left that team at the end of the session.

do you use 2 tables? we use 2....we play 8 ball on one and 9 ball on the other. we always have 2 matches going on at the same time.

we start at 7;30 and are usually done by 10;30 or 11;00 at the latest ...unless we are on the 9 footers that night. then its usally 12;00 by the time we are through.

nothing more excrutiating then watching 2-2's play a 40-45 inning match on the 9 footers. bar tables those same players usually only run up 25 innings lol.

Well, my sample size continues to grow. I took a three hour nap yesterday and won 3-2 in a 3-4 race. So far this session - a local modified NAPA 8 ball league - through 13 weeks I am 6-1 on good rest and 0-6 on short sleep.

All told I thought that this was only a 10 week session for some reason, as did many others, which induced one other team to actually quit. It was a 15 week session. Which is really about 5 weeks longer than my attention span as we roll into disc golf season. :p Been taking on and handling world ranked DGers this week, my focus is entirely on that. Billiards takes a back seat when the sun comes out for the summer for me.

Sleep is good. I'm 34, have borderline sleep insomnia, and go to bed at like 9-930 most nights (get up at 6 in the morning for work at 8). In relation to pool or even poker I definitely play better when I am rested. Fortunately in some situations even without rest I can still play well enough to win, but it may be a little too close for comfort.

Last session was a sh*tty 9-2 session. I am probably going to only play 4-5 tops out of this summers 8 week session. I am going for the ol skunk 4-0 or 5-0. I gotta maintain that overall average :). Let's gooooo!

Pool is fun, but there are more important things. Whatever makes you happy!

I lost my 9-ball match, 38-20, to another SL5. I broke three times, only made the nine ball twice, and scratched eight times. I never gave up BIH getting out of any safeties, only when I scratched. I blame myself, because I couldn't get used to the equipment, but it's hard to get used to the equipment when it's worse than a rotting dynamo in a volcano.

The equipment:
Diamond Red Label
5 year old Simonis 860 with an abundance of large holes
The cloth was originally tournament blue, but is so worn it's nearly white
The owner cleaned the cloth, before we played, with a wet towel; not a damp cloth, but a soaking dripping wet towel
The ball set was comprised of a few Aramith balls, a few undersized worn out bar balls, and a cheap set of action balls. The cue ball was probably the action cue ball, as it had no Aramith markings.

The room:
Musty smoke smell and no air condition. It was roughly 85 degrees in the room.

I would have rather played checkers at home, if I knew it was going to be like that.

This winter broke all records for temperature, snowfall, and general length and miserableness this year in Toledo. I just can't keep myself indoors anymore with the sun shining. :) Now if someone I knew threw a pool table on the ol' back deck......

It is pretty much the same I guess.
Yes, we play 2 tables, 8 ball,9ball. We (supposedly) start at 7PM. 9ft tables.

Now, you throw in the fact that at 7PM there are maybe 3 players from each team, those 3 all want to play first so they can go home, the cap'ts wanna play their picks but one of them isn't here yet, .......... and you get quite a mess!
I am justa shooter; it doesn't matter to me.
Our "7" (8-ball) is an older gent who wants to play on one particular table, wants to play first, and then leaves by 8 to 8:30 no exceptions. He;s a nice guy, but from a team standpoint it is a bit selfish. Its just a mess which is why I play sets on the side.

Yeah, I'm taking a break for a session or so, league play seems to be "all or nothing" for me anymore.

Yeah, I'm taking a break for a session or so, league play seems to be "all or nothing" for me anymore.

although its hard to get 7 or 8 players on the same page and be commited to the , keep searching , you will find the right team.

please pardon me fellas but i gotta vent a little here.

as noted i played on a team like above when i 1st joined apa. 1 session and i quit. my g/f and her friend...who started that team quit also and started a new team with me tagging along.

a year goes by and i tell the i want a serious team that could contend for vegas. they turned the reins over to me. i got 4 new players and sure enough ... we made vegas.

thing is i went through adversity to get there.

8 ball cities... i had 2 players that had family issues come up . understood and no problem. 1 player had to work that night. understood and no problem cause it takes an act of congress to take a night off without fear of losing his job.

here is where i got pissed. we had a husband / wife pair on the team that qualified for cities with us but started their own team 2 weeks before cities. no problem but thay were still eligible to play cities with us. they went to a friggin flea market instead.

so we are tied 2-2 fri night and had to forfiet our last match. all the players ...except the husband wife showed up all weekend and we fought tooth and nail and got to the finals and faced the team we forfieted to fri night. we lost to them.

our same team also made 9 ball cities. upon finding out how close we came to going to vegas in 8 ball the husband /wife wanted to play 9 ball cities with us. i voted no but the rest of the team said we needed them. i relented and let them play. we won and went to vegas.

as paul harvey says... now here is the rest of the story.

our by laws state by virtue of coming in 2nd place in the cities last year we receive an automatic berth in this years cities 8 ball. no having to make play offs, no tri cups.. no having to stay in top 50% every session.

just go straight to cities with only one stipulation... we have to have 4 original members from last years cities team.

we stayed together all year ...until this new session that just started 2 weeks ago....our cities starts in 2 weeks and now we only have 4 original members left.

thing is we lost all our best players. one of the original is out of the country doing missionary work which leaves only 3 to play. as stated earlier 1 of the 3 left cannot get off work fri night when cities starts. leaving only me and my g/f.

the new team has 3 players not eligible for cities due to the fact they just joined the team 2 weeks ago.

simply put ....we have a free pass to the cities and no friggin team.

after that long winded rant above i decide to call my lo and tell him i was gonna drop my team from the cities.

after discussing all of the above with him guess what he tells me ?

the players who quit 2 weeks ago are still eligible for the cities being held in 2 weeks. wow !!

now i guess i gotta call them and see if they are interested in playing.

we will see what happens.

Our new session started this week. On Tuesday, I held out myself, the other 5 and my 2 from playing, just as a "in case" since the three of us would have the biggest likelihood of possibly going up. (Our Tri Cup is Saturday.) We also played the most recently, and it was good to get the other players involved, too. We still almost won the night, losing 7-6.

Tonight in 9-ball, my team rocked, and I got smoked, 16-4 by a SL3. He got 9 of the first 10 points, so it was uphill from the get-go. Every time I left him bad, he came up with a hit, or even made it somehow. He's a decent shot, used to be a SL4 in 8-ball a few years ago, just doesn't play much lately. He shot well, I didn't. Rough way to start the session. The team still ended up winning 64-36 (we had one guy get a 20-0, first time we've seen that in a while.) Too bad I had to screw up the total domination ;)

Tri Cup Saturday!!!!! I'm pumped!!!

good luck dub.

our tri cups are this weekend also. they got 48 teams playing both 8 and 9 ball at 1 venue. the room owner called my g/f and asked her to work ...she helps out down there when they hold big tournaments such as this.

i may go hang out and cheer some friends on. another room is holding a tourny this weekend also. always pretty loaded with some strong players..... i may go donate to it.
