how are ya'll doing in league ?

in the 3 years i been playing apa all 3's and under get 2 time outs.
tonight i played apa 8 ball . i faced the strongest 7 in our area " at least thats what every one says " for the 3rd time this session.
the last 2 times we faced i won both matches. 1 was 3-2 and the other 3-3.
he won the lag and ran 5 ball and i ran out. 2 nd rack i made 2 stripes but did not have a shot at any thing . he ran out. from there on he just shot amazing . i shot great but he just shot better and won 5-1. he played some amazing safes also. i did make a couple of mistakes that cost me 2 racks and the match. any lesser player i probly could have over come those mistakes.
guess he was bound and determined to not let me sweep him this session. looking forward to matching up with him in the cities. he killed my 7/9 5-0 in last years cities but i think i got his number now.
funny how i some times play up to higher levels and down to lower levels.
looking forward to napa tom night.

Last week, I went up first, they threw a 2. This week, I went up first, they threw the best player on their team, an SL 6. Who has won Top Gun before.
I beat him, 4-4.
The funny part of the whole night was their mis management. They could potentially throw 6-6-5-4-2, so I decide to go 6-5-5-4-3. (Realize that I have an SL7, an SL6 and an SL5 who is probably better than me, in addition to me.) I go first, SL5. For some strange reason, they counter with their best player, one of their SL6's. I beat him, 2-1. Their turn, they throw SL3, I counter with SL3. My SL3 wins, 3-2.
I throw SL4 (cumulative total 12). They counter with their SL4, one of the better 4's in the league. (Which is why I went this way, I didn't want one of my 3's playing him.) If I want to play my SL7, I then have to play my SL2, in the other match. Of course, I can also play an SL5 and an SL6, and stay within the limit. My guy pulls an unexpected 3-0.
They throw an SL2, and they are surprised when I throw the SL5. WTF???? Don't they do the math??? Playoffs are determined by total points scored.
I play my SL6 for the last match, and for some reason, at that point they throw an SL3. And mutter about us "running it up". With a 5 and 6 available. Dammit, the only way into the playoffs is to have more total points than everyone else.
I'm happy with the 12-3 win. But curious why they got so mad at me, throwing the way I did. Seemed elementary to me...

Well this past Sunday after a decent APA match I went to the straight pool league. I'm new in the league so I don't know all the players. As I'm not so good I usually get the handicap. Well, the league operator gives us the score sheet and I notice the handicap is 150-24. The other guys say he's really good, pro quality. I feel I don't stand a chance. Well right away I make a shot but the cueball slowly goes in for a scratch. Then I scratch again, minus two. When I finally get to go again I'm so scared of scratching as 3 in a row is minus fifteen I miss an easy shot. Soon its 30 to negative 2. When he hits 100 I have only six. Well, all of the sudden I settle down, remember the basics like follow through, stay down, loose grip on the butt and start making shots. I actually get up to 23, just needing one ball. Now I don't know if I just had bad luck or nervousness but in 5 tries I never got the last ball and the opponent won. He came up to me, said I really gave him a scare, this was the closest he came to losing the whole season.

Some captains have no idea on how to match up. If they are mad at you for the way you did your lineup then they seriously have bigger issues than just pool lol. Life's too short to give a shit about wtf was that other team thinking throwing that way...
You're right, and I probably am over stating "mad", too. A couple of their players were griping some, their captain was cool about it.
We're all pretty friendly in this league, so if someone is upset unjustifiably, that gets my attention.
It just seemed so crazy. Poorly thought out on their part.
I had a perfect night last night going 4-0 against the number one team...as a whole we stopped them with a score of 135-99 which is enough to put us back in first place....its a tight points race for the top 3 teams and we're coming down to the wire with only 4 matches left...its going to be close but if we keep playing the way we are now we have a legit shot at winning the whole thing and getting our way payed to BCA in july
Showed up early to bang some around on the barbox. The very first break and my Samsara tip popped off. That's six Samsara tips, that I have popped off in the past month. So no break cue for me in my 9ball match.

We found out that the bar we were playing at, is the crappy redneck bar North of our bar. It still has Diamond tables, but they are filthy and the ball sets are comprised of at least 4 different types of balls. They matched me up against another "SL5" who sandbagged, but I can't complain, I still play better
They put us in the back corner on one of the "slower" tables. I broke the first game dry, he ran a few balls and played a bad safe. I got out, made two or three balls and tried to play safe. Well the cueball bounced right off the heavy 3 ball that came out of a Dynamo table and it send the CB right into the corner pocket. He got out and got out the next game, to take a lead right off the start. He was up something like 31 to 19 and I came back to win it 38-36! lol
What's annoying is there is a big difference in playing bad and playing on bad equipment. I bet if we matched up on decent equipment, we would have both played a lot better.

Last night was such a great night, and so frustrating to lose. Got paired up with a much better player than me, local guy named Javi. After four weeks in a row in this league (8 ball, modified NAPA) of nothing but wins - I had him on the ropes. It was a 5-3 race, me needing only 3. He had about a 30 point rating advantage on me (I was started out as a 44 this session thanks to losing all four weeks I played last fall, and despite my four wins in a row the league operator does not bump ratings up or down for on-the-hill matches, so I'm still a 44 despite four weeks of W's in a row).
It was the first match of its kind that I've wound up in. I'm guessing I'm going to run into a lot more matches like this in the future. Every single game was a sequence of safety after safety until one of us felt comfortable to run it out. The first game he got me after a sequence of safeties, and I got him the second game after the same. The third and fourth and fifth games all went to him, two of them safety battles and one involving him running around the table on me, to put him at 1-4.
The sixth game went to me after another sequence of safeties I managed to hit a kick shot off of two of my frozen balls when he left me in a position with no viable safety plays, freed up my table and let me run it out. The seventh, and deciding, game was another of the same - until he finally messed up a safety pretty badly and left it open for me to knock out my last couple and get on the eight ball. I leave one last safety, and he winds up leaving me a dead straight three quarter table shot on the eight into the corner................ and I followed it straight in. I tried playing backspin, and somehow managed to catch forward roll just before it made contact with the eight. Game over, match over. Winning streak gone.
Le sad.
Played fantastically well, if I just don't follow that dead straight eight I take him 3-4... but 5-2 loss instead. I'm pretty encouraged though, I know that even a couple of months ago I would have had a whole lot of trouble just taking a game off of him in that race, much less almost taking him. My safety game is improving by leaps and bounds. I felt nervous at no point during it. It was comfortable. I'm pretty happy with the way my game is coming along.

. You actually didn't hit it that hard for the tip to be falling off...pretty strange. You did hit the side of the one ball though so I may need to give you instructions on an aiming system (I kid I kid)!

LOLOLOLOL That was probably one of my crappiest breaks. Although, I do break dry a lot. When I was stroking, I had a feeling it would pop off, so I just swung away :frown:
One or two tips is fine, but six
I ended up not playing last night. The other team only had 2* people and I had a sub coming who doesn't play much so I wanted him to get on the table. I was a successful Captain, though, giving him some good coaching.
* The other team actually had three guys show up and as I was starting my match, I introduced myself. He says, "My name is Joe".
I replied, "uh... there's no Joe on the roster."
"Oh," he says, "I'm playing for Bob. Our captain [who is not there] said I could do it."
I said, "I'm sorry but you have to be on the roster to play."
Maybe I was a jerk... I could have beaten him (he doesn't play pool at all) and it may have been a little discouraging for the guy, but at the same time, I don't think I should be put in the position to say "you can't play" just because the other captain doesn't know the rules.

A week ago we lost all 3 matches to the #1 team, really should have beaten them, we all had better players but my 14 yr old needs to learn to win. He loves to miss 10 balls or play long position shots that get him in trouble.
This week we beat the #2 team all 3 matches. Only one set went hill-hill. I won my set with two 3 foul games where the opponent got 0 points. One game he started out trying to 3 foul me, really the only option as the was a giant cluster of 5 balls that made it impossible to try for a run out. He got me on 2, but then left me a hit on the 3rd. I was able to play a 2-way bank shot which missed but left him safe. He tried to jump but did not get over the ball, I got another strong save to get him on 2, but the 3rd one was a bit weak. I hooked him but left a simple one rail kick, which he missed! I was all ready to start the whole process again from one foul, but lucky for me did not have to.
My son played well, on the hill hill game he ended up with a 7 foot long dead straight shot on the 8 ball, cueball just about on the rail half a diamond from the corner pocket, 8 ball 2 diamonds up almost on the rail on the other corner. 9 ball 1.5 diamonds towards the middle of the table, about 6 inches off the short rail. He hit a GREAT stroke to make the 8 and rolled up to the 9, a bit of a cut that he made, then played good shape on the 10 to win. Pretty good shots for a 14 yr old under pressure.

I haven't participated in many organized leagues in my life but have done two apa sessions a few years ago and was just invited last fall to play in a weekly Tuesday in-house league with 91 players. That one just ended last week. I had a bad last two weeks and ended up 2nd in the individual by .03% :angry:
I also am on a Mon night league in my small town which, amazingly, has 16 teams at various bars and private clubs. Our team took 1st in the regular season and we are about to start playoffs this Mon.
I was in 1st individual until the last week when I had a bad night while my team mate had an incredible performance and, you guessed it, he knocked my poor-pool-playing behind into 2nd. :angry: :thud: :sad:
I'm beginning to see a disturbing pattern.

nope, it's an independent, well done, big $$$, Sept to April, 8-ball league.
lots of fun and the allure of the big $ payouts attracts players from far and wide.
That's why my little town has so many teams. Pretty much every bar or club with a pool table has one or two teams.
Pay them and they will come. :wink:

It all comes down to one AZB'er not only messing up my record on Wednesday nights.. but then following it up by handing me another 4-7 loss a couple months later. I will get my revenge(next season). Only a couple of weeks left this season.. I can almost feel the free time just piling up. Just checked on my Sunday team, since I didn't make it last time, and they're in first in 8 and 9. :thumbup: Not sure how the Tuesday team did, but they were in third in 8.
i played napa last night. my win streak of 6 straight wins came to an end last night.
not only did i lose but i was handed the most lop sided loss in my 2 years of playing napa.
6-4 race and i lost 6-1. i won the 1st rack with not much of a problem....then things went south for me. missing make able shots..hooking myself...scratched twice.... played poor defense....allways left the cue ball a couple of inches from where i intended leaving him a shot.
i can't explain it...its like i went from a b player to a d player in just a matter of minutes after i took the 1st rack.
