how big of a table can I get?

We were trying to get a house that a 9ft table would fit in the basement. Unfortuantly that deal is falling through. Our fall back house has a much smaller basement. The section I have is about 14x15 (basement makes a little turn and opens up to 15ft). I'm thinking I'm going to be stuck with a 7fter and it may even be a bit tight for that.

How big of a area is your table in? Tight spots?

I have 4 1/2 x 9' GC setup in a room 15' x 20', just fits perfect. I wouldn't want it in any smaller of a room or there would be tight spots or spots where where I'd have to use a shorter cue than 58". Found the below chart on the internet, it might help:

Room Size Table Size
16' 8" x 13' 3" 3.5' x 7'
17' 4" x 13' 8" 4' x 8'
18' 4" x 14' 2" 4.5' x 9'

You can reduce the required room size by 20 inches by using a 48" cue,
instead of the regulation cue which is 58 inches that comes with the table.

Sorry for the news but you need at least 5' which will be 14.5' x 19.5' room.

Check the length of your cue. Measure from the rail nose to the end of
the butt of your cue while in full back stroke position then add an inch or 2

Please find another house if the game means a lot to you.

Well I play with a 60" cue and the only issue I have is my table/rec room is in my finished attic. so th ceiling is at a 45 degree angle on the sides of table, then they stop at a knee wall that is about 30" high. So any rail shots are impossible, so I keep a shorty for this shot only. Yah, it pretty much sucks, but I've played in worse. And I was always the biggest advocate of making sure you have enough room. But If this is the house you must settle with, and you love pool, you'll learn to deal with it. There is always bigger houses for better futures. I thought when I bought this house I wasn't going to have a table at all, but determination prevailed.

They say to have all the room you need for standard cues(58") is all around the table

8' Table room size: 13' 8" x 17' 4"
7' Table room size: 13' 2" x 16' 4"

length wise its not a issue...corner of the basement is wider is all. Was thinking of putting a 7' table length wise so that the ends have plenty of room. Basement is actually bigger, but there are support poles down the middle of it.

Game doesn't mean as much as the other things about this house I like. Mostly the lot and the cost are great. House is in great shape as well, though its small. Only planning on staying in it for about 5 years, just long enough to save up for a bigger and better house.

I don't recommend settling on this if you play regularly, been there done that and you will be miserable and it will result in divorce or loss of life.....................J/K but if it means a lot keep looking you won't regret waiting for the perfect room or basement. This is one thing I will never sacrifice again.

The boat I can get by saving money now is more important than billiards, just want a table I can practice on. As all of the tournaments around here are on bar tables a bar table works ok. Was wanting to find out if there was enough room for a 8ft table, doesn't sound like it.

Calculation is easy. Subtract 9 feet from each dimension and that's how large a table you can fit in with just a little crowding. 14 minus 9 is 5. 15 minus 9 is 6. You have room for a 6x5 table, if you get a shorty cue stick. Or, you could push the table into a corner and just play from one side and one end. This will work for practice, even for an 8-foot table.

Here's a test you could do if it's important to you to make the right decision: Take some plywood or corefoam to a pool room. Prop it up at the appropriate distances from the pool table. Try to play a game. I think you will be disappointed.

Thanks Bob..

The reality is I actually have a 12x40 or more size area, just one corner is 14x15 roughly

Obviously your priorities are all screwed up...

well that may be...but I love fishing more than I love pool..

I might love action more than either though...good thing I've got that 800 number for gambling in my pocket...
