How can someone love the game so much, and still suck so bad.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING???

Don't you know that half of cue stick sales are based on a pool player missing a shot or losing a match! When someone says, "Get yourself a McDermott, or a Schon" when they have a perfectly good Jacoby or Joss. This helps my sales. EVERYONE thinks a new cue will up their game without practicing or doing drills. Sending them to school and making them practice will give them self confidence. I don't need that! Attention everyone!!! NEW CUES SOLVE ALL YOUR PROBLEMS! You will lose weight! Lower your cholesterol! Enlarge your P3nis size! Fix your bad credit! You will win tournaments! and you will pick up women! Guaranteed! (by Kevin Trudeau, see store for details and disclaimer form....not valid in AK or HI)

What exactly are you trying to say about Jacoby cues?????

I have owned both a Mcdermott and a Schon....and have since switched to a Jacoby.... :)

Man, I am IN...gotta have me one of those! If you can sell me a cue that will do all THAT...where the heck do I get in line to buy one? :D

Start playing games other than 9 ball. Develop your touch, and your creative thinking. Play straight pool. Allow the game to help you find a deep zone to fall in and stay in. Play some games where you make the decisions rather than the numbers on the balls making them for you.

I thought about this many times considering I am this man. You have to look at in the perspective of people that are REALLY bad. They think your good. My wife thinks I am the best pool player around. I think I suck.

here's another perspective. Someone can be a super fan for any sport like football for instense, but this doesn't mean you will ever be able to go toe to toe against a pro.

You love the game but you will only be as good as your abilities allow (Practice aside). Sure pros practice (some more then others). But you just know when someone has a gift (some better then others). I know if i was playing pool 15-20hrs a week like I used to when I was young single and had no care in the world to hold me back, that i be much much better then I am now with my ever so inconsistent game...ok, deep breath; run on sentence.

My 2 cents

Surely not saying anything negative. I own 4 Jacobys personally ranging in price from $695 to $2800. I am also switching all my house rental cues in my pool room to Jacobys. They are supposed to be finished in about a week.

My sarcastic rant was trying to show the absurdity of some players and how they view their cues. They will switch cues every 3 mos because they miss a shot or lose a match or they cannot do a trick shot. I have helped work at David Jacobys booth during the DCC in Louisville on more than one occasion.

BTW for those who didnt know. Jacoby Cues won the Peoples Choice Cue of the Year Award at the Hopkins Expo ( Valley Forge)

...seriously, wtf man.

I've really been struggling these past months. Recently I've accepted the fact that I lack any and all natural ability in this game. And even then, I remained optimistic. But lately for all the books, DVD's, nightly falling asleep to youtube/propoolvideo streams watching patterns, dreaming of my next cue, I'm just a pool nerd 100%. If ever in action, I'm usually in a good game--no confidence is lacking 'cause I'll railbird their shot choices and ability, yeah, and the pure WANT is there. I love this game.

But so far as personal goals and consistency? I can't get there. I'll go 0-2 in a local tourney, giving weight to some drunk, and it's just done. F-the rolls, f-the breaks, I should have taken him out. But I didn't, or couldn't.

I refuse to accept that I have too high, or unnatural standards for myself. It's just I don't understand for all the spirit and meditation in this game, and in all of its crushing defeats, that when all I want to do is run out a rack of 9 ball..pffh...game over. It's like some unhealthy relationship I'll never leave.

Does anyone else have light or advice on this? Absolutes aside, I still love everything about this game. What's my f-in problem?

(no heart, maybe)

I'm gonna go groom my tip now....

I love the title of this post.
My one piece of advice that has gotten me everywhere and everything i have in pool and life: Dont Give up. Just keep moving forward.

sometimes it makes no sense to, but you just have to. Then one day you look back and you realize how far you've traveled and how much adversity you overcame by just doing that simple thing.
