How can you go back to ESPN after BCn

After 10 glorious days of internet feed of the Derby I am on a high. I had my ticket set to go and my hotel reservations. My boss gave me a last minute offer I couldnt refuse. Putting my family first I stayed and made enough to qualify my family for medical insurance. But I was in a blue funk. Thanks to Rob Sykora and BCn he just made me feel like I was in attendance. What better way to watch pool. Sure there was some rough spots but Rob and company responded quickly to criticism and tried hard to perfect their broadcast. Surely it will be better in the coming years and I hope any criticism coming from me and others will be taken in a friendly supportive manner.

I kept thinking I hope the major domos at ESPN should be watching this. Their showing of exotic, amateur, slick progamming cannot compare to what we saw. With even the big pockets have you ever seen anyone RUN FOUR RACKS!!!! on ESPN. Or an all day exhibition that Efren gave. I could go on and on. But Thank You Rob and Pat Fleming and Greg Sullivan and Grady for showing what could be done and what isnt.

I heartily agree Yobagua! I loved watching it on my pc! So much better than ESPN. No break for commercials during a match. I even liked the commentating which was sort of like downhill skiing, you never knew what was coming around the next bend!! LOL!! I have a 17" monitor and cable modem and I thought the feed was great. It could have been a little clearer but my feeling is that after a while, the production is going to get better and better. I think this may be the beginning of the end for pool on ESPN. I hope so because I think they've practically ruined it. I also think BCn will provide users more immediate interaction with the producers and this will help them to be more responsive to the viewers wishes. I think the whole game may change this way. I'm hoping it will!

I have long said, espn bites the big weenie. They are so bad they are pathetic. They are just screwing pool, they show it no respect and see it as nothing but a last minute filler thing. The trick shot magic was great and they then ruined it by showing the same damn match over and over until every one begam to scream. Espn is one of the worst things that ever happened to pool. They suck, stronger letter to follow. :D

I agree with everything you said Rick. The fear I have is that bcn was doing this as a test, to see exactly how many viewers they could expect when they virtually give the product away at $9.95 for the 9-10 days. If you look at the price for viewing just one match of the recently recorded US Open you will see it cost $9.95 for just one match. I believe in the future we will have to pay much more for top events like the DCC. I certainly hope I'm wrong. If they can get some big time sponsors we may get lucky.

Hi All,

I think my question would be if they raise the price how much of the profits are they going to put back into pool. Pro Golf has a program to get 500,000 kids playing golf.

I have a hunch 500,000 people didn't watch BCn? LOL Maybe 5,000 if you count the retired folks. Very few people have the time to sit around watch pool for 10 days. I have even gone back to work now to keep from going crazy. LOL Everyone I know works even my friends in pool. No matter how you slice it pool just is not a spectator sport the way it is now?

Cheers,

Gremlin

Wrong, not every body, I am your friend, I do not have a day job, I play pool for fun full time and just happen to also make a living at it full time. Don't tell anyone, but I would probably pay them to do this it is so much fun. :p

as far as the cost goes regular cable cost about $30 to $40 a month. I can tell you I pay about $120 amonth for a premium cable hook up with cable for my computor. I get all channels including the movie channels. I have to do this I am in the entertainment industry. So $9.95 is a bargain. Even for a day. Also BCn can save me a lot of money by not having to travel to tournaments that are far away from my home base. Going to NY for the straight pool tournament I spent over about $2500 on Hotel and plane tix and event tix not to mention meals. This way I can pick the Derby and the US Open as priorities and watch the rest on BCn. I would be gladly willing to pay $9.95 a day. I know that this can be tough on some people but this is the way the market is. If no one paid there would be no BCn. Then we would be left with ESPN. I kinow that this would not bode well for tournament organizers but just think it would allow me more money to enter and go to tournaments in my area and stay home and spend money in my local pool hall.

I think you're right Hemi. We got to see this for practically nothing. If this does go over big, they will certainly charge more. But, like Yobagua said, the cost of actually going there is prohibitive for most of us, and that's not saying anything about having the time to go. If I went to the Derby tournament, it would cost me a couple of hundred a day just for the vacation time. Besides that, I have a family that wouldn't want me to be gone that long. If BCn did charge $9.95 a match, it would still be worth it to me. I hope BCn doesn't read this post!! Oh well, I'm not speaking for everyone anyway, just me.

Actually Im a little mad at Bcn because I tried to register so I can watch the matches but they never sent me the email with my password and all the info I need to watch the match. I tried twice and still have yet to receive the email

You might want to check your email settings. I forgot that I have filters in place and it was delivered to my bulk mail folder instead. Just a thought.

Look deep into the dark green picture in the top corner of his post, is that Gremlin lurking hidden back there cat like.

I am half Irish, may I ask some questions.

What is the difference between an Irish wedding and a Irish wake.

Where does a Irish family go on vacation?

Why did God invent Whiskey?

Do you drink Jamisons like me or Busnells.

Do you golf your ball laddie like me as well.

Do you believe in the little people?

What is your favorite Irish tune?

Who is your favorite Irish player, man and lady. :p
