Setting Up the Shortcuts App -- Edited shortly after posting; early part of it was incorrect. Sorry!
- Click to open the Shortcuts app; you will see the screen on the left below
- Click on the upper right plus sign (+) to add an Action
- Click on “Add Action” (2nd picture)
- Begin typing (I typed “Resi”); the app has a built-in Resize Image action that allows you to set the parameters; click on “Resize Image” (3rd picture)
You will now see the screen on the left below. Here we will change some of the variables in this initial Action.
Click on “Image” and you will see a drop-down menu. Click on Shortcut Input (middle pic).
I"m missing the screen that you see after clicking on Shortcut Input. It is like the one on the left, but instead of the singular "images", it reads “Images and 18 more”. You don't want that, so click on it and you'll get the screen on the right. click on Clear at the time and then activitate hte "Images" slider and then click Done.
After that, you should get the screen on the left. Instead of "Nowhere", you want to specify Show in Share Sheet. Click on Nowhere and then activate the Share Sheet slider.
Next set the desired size for Landscape pictures. I have found that a 1080 pixel width is a good compromise between maximizing size and maintaining clarity and staying within posting size requirements.
Click on the 640 shown in the picture to the left. Edit it to 1080 and leave Auto Height alone. If you just want the app to work for AZB posting, then DO NOT click on “Ask Each Time”. If you want to have to set the width each time, then you’d click on that. Click on Done toward the bottom and your screen should look like the picture on the right below.
(If you decide to later create a second Action, Photo Resize Portrait, leave Auto Width alone and enter 900 for the Height.)
Set Up Sub-Actions
In the right picture above, you need to search for “Convert Image” so that you can set up a sub-app. Click in the “Search for apps and actions” at the very bottom and begin typing and “Convert Image” will show up under the Media pre-defined apps (left picture below). Click on that.
There is not much to do here. Convert to JPEG is the default. Click on the symbol to the right of JPEG and get the options shown in the right picture. I slide the Quality slider all the way to the right for max quality. I leave the Perserve Metadata on. If you don’t want things such as location to be embedded in the resized picture, turn it off.
Now for the 2nd and last sub-action, we need to click at the bottom and search for “Share”. Click on Share under Sharing as shown in the picture to the left below. There is nothing else to do; you’re almost done.
When you add the Share sub-action, it changes the name from Photo Resize Horizontal to Share. Just rename it by clicking on the drop down arrow at the top to the right of Share and click on rename and change it back.
