How come early 2010s Earl is better than late 90s-late 00s Earl?

new york has accepted him with open arms, people can deal with his crazy and his overall attitude is slightly improved bc of it. he draws big names to steinway, hes a living legend in pool circles and his desire to compete is higher than ever. he'll be 80 and still run a rack of 9 in two minutes.

Wow, isn't it great that we are having this conversation? I'm serious, this is super cool.

Who in the world is discussing Michael Jordan's ability to be a top notch basketball player in the NBA? How about Jack Nicklaus? No talk of him being "better than he was".

I believe the reality is Earl is one of the best pool players, ever. Period.

We are fortunate he is still playing, and he is great for the game. Period.

I agree.

There are times that I get a bit put off by Earl and his vocal bursts, but a lot of them are actually just Earl and his sense of humor. He also has fun with it. I just don't think many people get it because his tone then is exactly the same as it is when he's serious. Some people think he's always serious and that's where his reputation comes from. In truth, he's joking around lots of the times.

Of all the players I've watched in my lifetime, there have been only two who truly left me in awe of what they did at the table, and Earl is one of them. There is a brilliance there that you have to understand to appreciate. There is something that's difficult to verbalize that's special about the way he plays. Some folks don't see it and that's fine. But I agree, while he may not be winning as much now as in years past, he's certainly playing better than he ever did. Just not nearly as consistent.

Right on! How many of us have lost to "lesser skilled players"? I certainly have (as difficult as it is to find a lesser skilled player than me, lol).

However, who in their right mind would ever bet against Earl when he is in "dead stroke"? Even now?

Not me.

I love this thread!

Earl would rob any player in the world, if they spotted him the 7 playing 9 ball!

Asians, pinoys and any body else for that matter!

Earl changed his stance

Earl changed his stance much like I did.....the "foundation" is the most important thing to build any game on.

EDIT: sorry, I should have said mid 00s-2010

What did he do to revive his game? He wasn't bad those years but I'd take todays Earl any day over that era's Earl.

All things considered, Earl's game has aged EXTREMELY well. How many players in their 50's or older want a piece of him? You could probably count the number on one hand. Unfortunately, his game doesn't get a lot of respect because he doesn't act like someone over 50.
