How much time per day 5 days a week would you commit to dedicated practice if it would raise your current level of play by a single level (e.g. from a C+ player to a B- Player in 6 months.

I'm not talking about playing games of pool but practicing and monitoring your progress by video taping yourself and reviewing, doing progressive drills and charting your progress over time etc.

I'd love to film myself and see how I progress. I've shot a few videos here and there.
With my job, I'm so drained by time I even get to the table. I'm actually surprised that I shoot as I do.

I know what you mean. I am fortunate to have a table at home.

I am a little surprised that so many people are saying an hour or more of dedicated practice. I wonder how many have done that and how long it lasted before the practice turned into playing and calling it practice.

I think the poll would go something more like..

How much time per day 5 days a week would you commit to dedicated practice if it would make you realize your current level of play by a single level (e.g. from a B+ player to a C- Player) in 6 months.

I put in lots of time, day after day, of what I would consider practice. The biggest difference that I noticed was that the more I practiced, the worse I realized that I was. I thought I had started as a B player, but by the time I got to a C I knew I had been a D that whole time. Now that some people think I'm an A player, I'm a little more comfortable as a B. By the time I get to an A, I'll have known I was a C player all along! :o

If I could put in an hour a day, 5 days a week, and move up, I'd be bringing my girlfriend flowers every morning(at 2am) for a year and cooking dinner every night(for myself - ramen).. If she didn't believe I was an "A"-something by then, I'd be shocked!

I had to average it because I don't get to play every day. I play around 8-10 hours / week right now. Of that, 6 hours are playing alone, 1-3 hours competing, 1-3 hours playing others for practice.

It's going pretty well. I would say my game has been elevated by 1/2 a handicap point in the past 6 months. Beyond that my fundamentals have gotten much better.

I have put at least an hour a day in since Nov. of 2010. I missed 4 days in that time. Three while on vacation with the wife in Vegas and 1 while on vacation in New Jersey with the family.

It is slowly paying off. I may not ever be a world beater but I will go down swinging! :)
